My POV
I've been one of the last diehard Henne supporters until he went down, always believing that he got a raw deal from our brainiacs including Henning between that 3 second clock to the momenum killing WC substitutions to not trusting him to make plays to the OC calls that were so predictable the defenders were LTAO. I was gratified seeing Chad take the initiative last offseason to conduct workouts and happy to see he developed more mobility and essentially became more effective as a result.
However, when he went down, the insertion of "Double-M" was a real eye-opener for me. I've observed both from the stands as well as on the HDTV. Henne would slap 5 and then huddle with the OC and study film. Moore was very demonstrative in his body language and actions: he'd be slapping 5 enthusiastically and going down the sidelines giving attaboys to the OL and other players. From that standpoint, it was obvious which one had that "it" ingredient necessary to earn confidence of his teammates and display the kind of confident leadership himself expected of a field general.
More than that, it became very obvious that Moore could process information a helluva lot fast than could Henne. Henne is not dumb like a VY or Dullpecker, but his synapses just didn't fire off fast enough to assess and then make alternative decisions. That's why he locked on receivers where Moore rarely did and in hindsight, probably the reason why Henning saddled him with that 3 second clock. As a result, once Chad demonstrated some mobility out of the pocket, he became more effective since it enabled him to buy time and see the field at his own mental speed. This is not unlike Culpepper who used his mobility to give Moss time to get free and then without it, forced to pocket pass, was pedestrian at best.
Another reason I was pulling for Chad was on account of all the BS he quietly put up with from the fans, especially with the Orton chants (which to me was a joke cause despite his shortcomings I'd still take Henne over Orton, or Sanchez for that matter).. and how he soldiered on without any inflammatory media-worthy quotes for them to fixate on.. ditto when Marshall berated him on the field. He put up with a lot of **** and an awful OL too.
I wish Henne much success, but whether Moore pans out or not, in the past for bad teams he more often than not outperformed their records when he was under center. He has uplifted bad teams where Henne has risen or fallen to the prevailing water level. Ain't no comparison or IMO reasons to wistfully look back.
