I've read the reports about Jake Long not being athletic enough to play the LT spot.

Weakness:
Is not athletic and may get beat at the next level. Has a tougher time with bull-rushers. Has a high center of gravity and smaller ends can win the position battle. A tad overrated due to being a tackle at Michigan.

Here's what they said about another draft prospect in 2006:

Negatives:
Occasionally has trouble against speed rushers that avoid his first shot, and has shown problems against the spin move because of footwork that needs improvement. He's far from a liability in pass protection, but it's definitely not his strong suit.

And who is this draft prospect? 2 time Pro Bowler, Marcus McNeil

My point is that these so-called "draft gurus" have to come up with something negative about these prospects. Predicting the draft is not a science, more like an educated guess. Remember what they said about Robert Gallery? Now he's slotted at OG.:rolleyes2: I've seen Long play and I feel he can handle LT. Is he going to be the second coming of John Hannah or Jackie Slater? Your guess is as good as mine. But I think he'll be a solid player on the line for the next 10yrs. if we draft him. I for one would like to have that kind of stability. It's a lot better than having six players at that postion over the last 8yrs.

problem with that is, whoever wrote that about McNeil is dumb as ****. pass protection wasnt his strong suit? he was a monster agaisnt the pass in college. the ONLY reasons he wasnt picked in the 1st was 1. he never dominated run blocking. which was a concern from a 6'8 340 pound man. may not have good leverage. and 2. he was 6'8 and had back troubles in the past. big concern at the draft.

Jake Long his athletic enough just foot work is his problem. Gholston exposed him, by either speed rush on the outside or a straight on bull rush. Jake Long is a great Run Blocking tackle just not so great pass protector.

If giving up one sack in two years is being exposed...I hope all our OL is exposed.

Even if Jake Long is the best pass protector he will still dominate the run game which is the dolphins strong suit with Ronnie Brown

I'm saying he will struggle in the pros.
In the pros. J. Long is also going to get "pro" coaching to help with positioning, angles, leverage, schemes, etc...., which means he could also get a lot better. The great speed rusher relies more on his natural abilities. The draft is pretty deep at that position also.

V.Gholston owned J.Long is one of the more laughable comments I've read on this board. ONE sack, that's it, ONE sack, so that defines a man's college career, wow!!! Two sacks in four years and two flags in four years and he can't play LT, wow!!! So if J.Long can't play LT you want us to wait until the 2nd or 3rd rounds to draft a guy who isn't half as good as J.Long but some how this guy will be better!!!

Exactly. I was thinking of posting a thread about how Vernon Gholston is owned by Jake Long. All those other plays. Nothing? Weak.

EXACTLY!!!!! That is what my thought are. Man I hope we draft J. Long.

Funny, I havent seen you post this before...:rolleyes2:

Jake Long is going to be a solid Pro-Bowler IMO...Just on the right side of somebody's line.

If that is the worst case scenario, sign me up. If you tell me we are going to be guaranteed a pro-bowler I take him #1 everytime.

The reason McNeil was not a first round draft pick was because teams were concerned about his injury history. The fractured right hand he had at the combine and probably a bigger factor in him dropping into the second round was his back troubles (spinal stenosis) that kept him from lifting weights.

Never dominated run blocking? That was the one thing Auburn was great at when McNeil was there. Just ask Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams who frequently ran behind Marcus no matter where he lined up.
