I have heard and read chatter about how the dolphins are using Jake Long as a smokescreen to hide their true draft intentions. Some of it has been fueled by Ireland's choice of words in his press conference..."cornerstone of our defense."

But if Miami truly is going to draft a defensive player with the first pick, why would they be wasting so much effort and time trying to sign Jake Long? As far as we know Jake Long is the only player Miami is negotiating with. Not yet Gholston or Chris Long.

The only reason I could think why Miami would be working so hard to sign Jake Long if they don't want to keep him is if they have a deal with another team to trade him after picking him. So I think Miami truly wants Jake Long and if they don't sign him by draft day, then they may seek another direction.

I have no doubt that the Dolphins want J. Long...but they will not over pay him...and I fully expect it will be either J. Long or a trade down. After trading down to the 5th pick..as I expect K.C. will trade with the Dolphins...they will be in position to either grab...Gholston, C. Long or Albert.

Why do you expect KC to trade with us? Have you read something or is it just a feeling?

KC is very high on Jake Long also. I do believe Miami will draft Jake if they can get a good deal, but at the same time, they want to see if KC will make an offer to jump up to get him.

You don't trade away your best player....if your not going to move up...the Vikes are going to give the Chiefs the 17th and 47th picks....I believe the Chiefs will package the 5th, 35th and 47th picks to move up to get the Dolphins pick...who they take...it could be J. Long...Ryan...but they still would have the 17th pick also to get a replacement for Allen.

Well...perhaps Miami and KC are working behind the scenes to draft Jake Long for a sign and trade deal, then Miami can draft Albert or Chris Long with the fifth pick.

That would be a sweet deal if it happens:)

St Louis, Atlanta, Oakland and KC have all expressed interest in Jake with St Louis really wanting him to keep Bulger healthy. Wouldnt you want to swap picks with St Louis and pick up a 4th rounder for dropping one spot?

Two items make me feel it will happen...First K.C. is trying to get the deal done with the Vikes...now....before the draft...and secondly...the Dolphins have had no contract talks with no other players than J. Long....the draft is a week away...one would think...if it wasn't J. Long...why are they waiting...with so little time left...unless they already have a trade worked out...and once that trade is done...so is J. Long...and the talks with the Dolphins.

Wouldn't you want the better deal with K.C.?

Something in my bones feels like a trade is going to happen on draft day. I'm not a future teller I just have a hunch. Of course I could be wrong and my feeling is more out of my desire to see a trade happen.

Getting Albert would be choice! That guy is sick - very athletic. Just what we need to free up R Brown and Booker. Then ppound Ricky in the 4th quarter in the sauna down in Dolphin Stadium.

They smoked out KC and ST Louis for Jake Long Now they are going to see who they can smoke out to see if anyone is really wanting C Long, Dorsey or Gholston.

BP is working the trade down.

I love the idea and it makes sense but my only issue is why low ball J.Long if your gonna trade him. Why not just give him alittle less than J.Russel and get it over with.
