Jake Long gets a big pay raise

Maybe now he wont be afraid to get fined for an end zone celebration

Don't get me wrong, i love Jake Long and he definitely deserves the money he's getting, however those are some serious cap hits...

I don't really like it as far as the cap goes and Im doubting our front office likes it either (Im sure they agreed to put this in his contract never thinking he would make the probowl his rookie season). However, kudos to the guy, he worked hard and is now going to get what he deserves. I bet his agent is doing cartwheels over this as well.

Never was a big fan of bringing in Aquan Boldin but now we may know why. This is the difference between solving another hole in the team and not being able to. No doubt this hurts and hurts bad. You can bring a pretty nice free agent for 4 mil a year. You can resign your own free agent for 4 mil a year. If he doesn't have a great year this year you might hear some rumblings next off season about a restructure.

He had a great rookie season and may be even better under a better OL coach but those numbers are star QB numbers. Maybe he can play some DT also. Play him both ways, then maybe he will be worth it....unless he makes the probowl as a DT also, then he will be making 20 mil a year. j/k

The league HAS to come up with some sort of rookie salary cap. It is now to the point where it is a curse to have a top 5 pick. This has to change and change soon.

Kudos Jake, you earned it. Hard work and cultivating that given talent has brought you tons of greenbacks.
They agreed on it, he earned it. I think he should have been in before Jason Peters for sure.
What IS the value of an elite left tackle? Whatever it is, i think he may have reached it.

thats the only explaination I came up with aswell.Its...bittersweet,when you really think about it though....yes its a lot of money, but you cant fault the guy...

Is the cap hit just for this year or all 5 years. It is my understanding the entire value of his contract is at 50 plus million but no more. I would expect that there might be other clauses in his contract too?

it does hurt, but cmon...we were 1-15 the season before we picked Jake...If Jake was an arshole,he really could have gotten $70M+...AS A START,even though we definately would have went Chris Long then....:D

But,some of you guys are suicidial for the numbers, but if Jake is filling the bill, getting the results he worked his ars off for,I say more power to him

Pay the man. After getting stuck with the likes of John St. Clair, Jeno James, Damion McIntosh and Jamie Nails for the past 5 years, I like being spoiled with a solid, young pro bowl OT!
