Previous years, jake long rarely was beat. Rarely had a false start. He usually made a habit out of manhandling virtually opponent in his path! Where the hell is that this year? I've noticed more penalties, and time after time he's getting beat a handful of ways. Whether its with speed around the end or up the inside! He missed all of preseason right? I am convinced he is either still hurt or not 100%. Anybody else noticing this. I hope he gets right, and soon!

The penalties are attributed to the fact that teams and players are pointing out(to the refs) that he does this little short step right before the ball is snapped. You're right there though, they started noticing last season after they moved the umpire positions. Also, he has problems with speed rushers, and Abraham from the falcons has constantly given him fits, whether its pre-season or regular season.

Every player has a weakness in his game. If given enough time and film, the coaches will find it and the tendencies will be exposed.
That said, Jake Long is a beast and he is rarely beaten.

He does seem off. My worry would be that the coaching staff are mishandling a serious injury in a desperate attempt to save their jobs.

He got destroyed by some OLB I had never heard of on that first series. The play that Henne was sacked, Long was straight bull rushed and tossed aside by that guy on his way to Henne.

Watching Jake against the Texans and I think he is not 100%. He just doesn't look as fast off the ball. Maybe he's favoring a knee??

I agree the texans game was worse than the pats game. I realize our Oline is weak in general, but years past we just did not have to worry about jake getting beat, and I although I respect langers opinion, I ha ve to disagree. I think long is getting beat way too much this year. The way our season is headed, if he's hurt and we lose a coupke more in a row, they need to shut him down IMO.

WTF,I remember last yr on the nfl netwrok they ask T.suggs what line man tough 2 deal whit
& he said JL....

I appreciate your opinion too. It could be that Jake is having some lingering problem s with the knee and shoulder. The lock out surely did not help some of the players regain full mobility and strength. look what has happened to Peyton Manning. Jake is probably at 80 % which makes him still above average. I hope there isn't a chronic problem from his playing injured in 2010.
Combine less than perfect health with tracking tendencies and that might explain his difficulties in certain situations.

You've never heard of Connor Barwin?

I agree something about Jake Long does seem off this year. I'm not saying he is playing poorly, he is still our best OL out there, but he doesn't seem like his usual first team all pro self. I'm hoping that he just needs to get back into the swing of things and that it isn't something more serious than that.

I noticed it too.

What's concerning is just *how* he's getting beat. There was one play late in the 2Q agains the Pats where he just fell down in front of Ninkovich, perhaps attempting a cut block, and stayed there. He isn't getting pushed around, but he looks just... off.

Thank you for pointing this out, it's indeed very concerning.

Jake Long has always started the year off with a couple of bad plays. Deal with it. His first two years he was beat badly by inside moves the first games of the year and had penalties called. This is just "par for the course"...he usually gets it out of his system early and then is good for the rest of the year.

He never got beat by the likes of Ninkovich or Barwin.
