Mike Mayock from NFL Network thinks we're going to draft 2 or 3 tackles/guards in this draft. Can you imagine Jake Long with Carey next to him and Satele and Smilley with say a Baker/Collins/Cherilus/Nicks/Cousins next to him. Ronnie Brown and Rickey Williams will have 1000 yds each. We could go back to controlling the game and making our defense better by not having them on the field as much. Making the other team having to be in passing situation to get back into the game knowing we're going to control the clock and shorten the game. Which makes Ted Ginn/Wilford have single coverage and big plays in the future. Sometimes to make a good defense you make your offense better.

I agree we'll probably end up taking 3 total O-Lineman in the draft, but lets not get carried away they'll still be rookies next season and could develop into a great O-Line in future years.

I totally agree that we should build this o-line when we have high draft choices because you dominate from the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball!!!! I don't care what running back you have he needs a good oline to run behind!

I kinda figured we would take at least two offensive lineman. We need the help, and we need someone in addition to Jake Long, to compete with Mormino for the LG position.

don't want too many o lineman in the draft - we have mega holes. my draft board certainly doesn't have room for more than 2 maybe 3 unless we accumulate those picks.

If they take Jake Long with the 1st pick there are too many pressing needs at other positions. If Jake Long is the 1st pick I am hoping for the best available corner with the first 2nd round pick, best available TE or WR with the next 2nd round pick and then mostly build depth with the LBs and DL with the rest of the picks.

Depends on trade downs but based on our OL depth you could very well see 3 picks on the OL. I would assume a OL (Jake Long) at pick 1 or #33.
I would also assume a pick at the beginning of round 3 or 4 as well as a late round developmental prospect.

-I'm taking a liking to Jake long #1 overall
-John Greco in the middle rounds to play Guard
-Shawn Murphy as a late round G prospect

yeah, if we take jake first, i will be very happy to get the best corner available - hopefully mckelvin - after that and then the best WR - but i could wait and grab monk a ltiile later.

We could solidify our O-line for years in this one draft. I doubt there will be another class of O-linemen like this for a long, long time. We should grab as many as we reasonably can and let them grow together for years. This is our chance. Take it. We have lots of needs, but we can totally fix the biggest one in one draft.

This is the same Mike Mayock that had us taken Matt Ryan a few weeks ago.

If they draft Jake Long they should just go BPA reguardless of position the rest of the way. If they don't draft Jake Long they're almost forced to take the best available OT with their 2nd pick. This is why I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that the pick HAS to be Jake Long. There isn't even a 2nd OT on the roster even capable of starting, and lets not kid ourselves the drop off between Jake Long and whoever is available at #32 will be big. Also if there's a stud LB, CB, DE, TE etc..... there with a 1st round grade and we really need/want him you can't take him unless you want to leave a very big gaping hole along the OL which would be a HUGE mistake. I guess BP and Co. could take the previous Regime's strategy and ignore the OL early, take a lesser talent later and hope and pray they get lucky with some project player but I say NO, NO, NO, NO, NO to that!!!

We could take five linemen but it doesn't mean they would all start.
We might be looking for some depth later in the draft, maybe a guy to compete with Mormino for the left guard spot?

i dont get why everyone is so quick to move carey to guard. hes a great in space, specially on the right side.

For me it's not about quickly switching positions.

I see it this way. Carey played solid for us last year at LT. Not great but solid. Jake Long should be better at LT then Carey most will admit that. Now, Carey graded out better at RT then LT. That is a fact.

So, by taking Jake Long, in theory(which it is regardless of who we pick) we now upgraded both our RT and LT spots.

With that said, some argue that Baker/Nicks ETC are great value and could startat LT for us.

We already know that Carey is versatile and could easily play GUard and be good at it.

In theory, by taking 2 Tackles and moving Carey inside to Guard we now have a young and talented O-line that is set for 7-10 years.

This would only help the development of Brown/Beck and Ginn.

So for me, it's the potential. But i would be fine with taking Jake Long and moving Carey to RT where he is better suited
