something about Long we shoudl all consider (Jake) before we jump the gun and call him out on certain things.

FOr 1, he will solidify our line for once especially at the LT spot. he may not move like Thomas of last yera but as many scouts said recently you'll be lucky to find a guy move like thomas does again. He is tough, an A hole, strong, and nevr backs down something our line has lacked for years adn whens the last time we had a guy on our line that was a TEAM CAPTAIN like Long is/was on Mich.

2nd) he chose to come back for his SR year to improve on his pass protection and other problems (although we do know it was to also likely be the 1st tackle taken) but at the same time he put himself in a position to hurt his draft stock, show vulnerablities in an extra year of tape and games, risked injury, and also risked the chance of hurting his draft stock from giving up sacks or penalties and he did NEITHER!!! if anything he did what he claims and that was to improve his game. Credit goes where credit is due!

I think he will be a great pick up even tho i believe CL and GHOL will be good on this team as well but this guy fits a need like never beefore as ppl cried for a Tackle for years along wiht the fact that the talent from him and what will be left at 32 is goin to be a HUGEEEE DIFF as oppose to a DE from 32 and 1.

Along wiht the fact that he would help the run game, the pass game AND evreyone else on offense from TE to WR to RB to FB to the rest of the o line to leadership and standards he can present.

also, we might move down into the top 10 and if so a shot at Otah/Williams will still be on the board for the picking if we have them as potential targets. Otah is 2nd on my list if not 1st with Jake.

Along with the main fact taht he has shown progress from year after year just as Ginn this from week after week. Players like that are special players and GAMERS.

I pretty much agree with you on this. Jake Long not only makes the most sense, because of the issue regarding the guarenteed money and the OLB position versus the tackle position, and because of our need, but as the weeks have gone by it seems like Jake has somewhat separated himself from Chris Long and Gholston as the top player (I'm excluding Doresey because he doesn't fit our system), with questions about Chris Long's physical ability to reach the QB and questions regarding Gholston's work ethic and lack of tackles.

Jake has the physical tools, the work ethic, and the track record. He deserves to be the top pick.

Jake is a solid pick, I have zero problems with it.

i don't know alot about him. what were some of the things he needed work on going into his senior yr(asside from the afore mentioned pass protec) and did he progress in those particular "problems"?

we will be a running first team with a spice of draw, screen plays to make J Long one tough hombre that kicks some serious ***.

And another thing. We have no hold out issues people. That is huge!

I always kind of chuckle when I hear people argue how important it is to have guys who can rush the QB... By default does that not actually put the same emphasis on acquiring players to STOP THEM?

I wish people would stop masking their man-love for Gholston with hate for Jake. if there is anything our FO knows it is OL talent. if they are willing to take the 'gamble' so am I...

exactly ppl say u gotta rush the other teams QB but what do u do when ur own team cant stop teh other teams rush? tahts been our problem for years. satele only 1 man himself made a HUGGEEEEEE diff last year in our run game and pass game where u didnt see a DT blow up the middle on a dime instead u saw hadnot and shelton let the line get blown up from an End. now we have smiley and carey there isntead of those 2 farts.

Ask New England...I'm sure the answer would be a resounding YES

Vernon Carey was more than adequate as a LT, in fact he had pro bowl like stats. Bringing up New England and the Giants is exactly why I want Chris Long or Gholston, because the Giants showed with enough elite pass rushers you can win even if New England had an good O line with 3 pro bowlers. Not to mention stopping the run and getting pressure on the QB was a bigger problem for us last year.

ya but also losing by 3 pts and most of the time more then that b/c by the time it became 3 pts the other teams D didnt care for the TD's we scored the last few min of the game shows that ur offense is dreadful. considering u ranked nearly last in all of the offensive and defensive categories. we need help in both so u get whats best

I can understand wanting to improve the O line but I don't think we need to use the 1st pick on that. Vernon Carey was playing close to a pro bowl level at LT, and now with Sparano coaching him I expect him to get even better. Flozell Adams, a 2nd rounder in 1998, became a pro-bowler for the first time in his career when Sparano started coaching at Dallas in 2003. There is many guys that will be available in the 2 and 3 rounds that will make great RT's. I just think having a defensive front like the Giants with a scary pass rush will turn us around in a hurry in addition to drafting solid pieces for G and RT and having Ronnie Brown back healthy.

We need an oline so bad I would be thrilled if they drafted Jake Long and then drafted Sam Baker with 32 to play guard.

I agree with everything you said except the part where you said he would solidify the line. That is a not so much at the moment. He is everything you want in a LT except for balance. He is mean, nasty, doesn't get penalized, and a huge beast, but he has 'vertigo" so to speak. If his balance and center of gravity can be fixed, he can be one of the best LT in the league. Either way, if he becomes a Dolphin I support him 100%
