Maybe it's just me, but I don't know that we realise just how lucky we were that this pick panned out. Not just luck though, for jake to get that huge contract and then back it up really makes me feel good about his future. Think about Tony Mandrich or any of the other first picks in the draft that never panned out. He is only the forth first overall pick to make the pro bowl. How close were we to drafting Gholston, what a mistake that would have been. I never liked Bill Parcells but I gotta give him his do, he's doing a great job.

I don't take him for granted at all. It is hard to find an elite LT in this league, and for us to be able to get an elite LT who was a rookie is amazing. The way the NFL goes, Pro Bowl LTs don't ever really hit Free Agency. If you want one, you either have to come up with a blockbuster trade or draft one.

We have waited so long for an elite LT and now we finally have one. Making the Pro Bowl is probably going to be a regular accomplisment for him.

BTW I didn't mean to say we weren't showing him enough love, it's just the top of the draft can be a crap shoot. Sometimes you pay a rookie all that money and don't really know how they will do. Also there were a few people in the media and other places that questioned whether he would make it at left tackle.

It's just you. Jake gets tons of love on this board. I don't think I've seen one negative thing posted about him all year.

Did you ever think he may be getting too much love, especially since he is a young rookie?

We don't want the success to get to his head. He might think he needs a bigger contract or a better team if that happens.

Everyone! stop! Don't let Jake Long feel the love too much!

No one is taking him for granted that's for sure...if anything he got too much praise but it was deserved. The guy played about as good as any LT in the league which is why he is in the pro bowl.

we might take him for granted this year, because he was so good last year.

I thought gholston barely played for the jets......good thing we didn't get him anyways lol, we got cam wake :D hopefully he can play like he did in the cfl for the phins....

I am glad he panned out so we don't have to hear the constant psycho babel from WV about Matt Ryan. Could you imagine the broken record had Long not worked out.

This is why you set up your front office with people who know what they are doing. So drafting personel (especially Top 10) is not about luck. It about skill in scouting and evaluation.

I guess this is what I was talking about, there are tons of threads about how Ginn wasn't worth the 9th pick or we could have had Boldin instead of Fletcher (don't get me started on that one) I'm just glad we finally got it right. I don't start too many threads I just wanted to point out this guy is special.
