Nice little article on the number one overall pick at the Florida Today. Click the link above to read the whole article. These are just bits:

"Jake Long, he's a hard worker," right tackle Vernon Carey said. "He listens to the coaches, he listens to me, he's always trying to get better.

"I wish I had it like that. I mean, he's a guy who can pick up things real good, and that's what you need at this level."
Even though we're in shorts, you can tell the guy's a special player," Smiley said. "Honestly, Jake's a very special player. He's going to be a perennial Pro Bowler one day. I really believe that. I played with Larry Allen (in San Francisco) and I've seen good players on the offensive line and he's got everything that it takes.

"I'd like to think me playing over there would be helpful, but I really don't think it matters who you put over there."

It's not just the rookie's size (6-foot-7) and power that impress Smiley. It's the athleticism, the fundamentals and the willingness to work hard to improve all rolled into one big package.

"It's the combination of everything," Smiley said. "I mean, look at him. He weighs 320 (pounds) and he's got abs. That right there is special in itself.

"And to watch him run around out there, his technique is pretty flawless most of the time. That's uncharacteristic for a rookie offensive tackle. He's pretty special."

well,it definitely looks&sounds like big Jake Long has what it takes and the willingness to learn and get better at his game. as much as i wanna see Miami either get rid of Taylor or just do something about him. JT being out there practicing against Long would DEFINITELY help Jake out and help him get better;but i like that Jake's willing to learn and get better and improve himself, something tells me that that comes from his blue collar background and the way he was raised. my thought on it...Go Jake Long, keep improving and getting better.

I think Jake Long will be our best lineman from year one.

Thanks a lot!! Great stuff!! I wanted Jake from the beginning. These kind of reports reinforces my convictions about him. I know it's a bit early to judge since they haven't played with full contact yet, but coming from his teammates gives it a lot more credibility rather than hearing through media speculation.

was a no brainer pick . . . passing up a guy with his talent and work ethic at a position we have lacked for years would have haunted us for a LONG time. He is a road grader who also excels in pass blocking as well. Yea he will give up a few sacks this year . . . but remember he is a rookie and when R&R has a 5 to 6 yard average running left . . . Jake will be the reason why.

I got a chuckle out of that.

I do think that Jake and Smiley will definatly help the line because they play nasty.

Yeah I thought that was kinda funny also. I mean come on EVERYONE has abs. Just some of us have them well hidden and disgusied behind mutiple layers of.....well padding. But they are there just the same. Come to think of it, my abs are probably bigger than Jake's....not my ab muscles, but my abs are probably bigger. lol

this is another one of those articles where a writer basically plagerised others interviews and stuff that happened over 2 weeks ago. damn i cant wait for training camp...
