Jake Long was a great pickup and already has helped our team win games, against San Diego he played fantastic!

Here's what he and other players had to say about Jake's play on the game winning drive:

Rookie left tackle Jake Long told his teammates in the huddle at the outset of that drive, ''We're going to be on this field when the game ends,'' a promise kept.

Dolphins defensive players rollicked on the sideline, towels waving, fists pumping.

''To stand on that sideline, watching those guys muscle the ball down the field,'' Holliday said. ``I haven't felt like that for a long time.''

Pennington knelt down on consecutive plays to kill the clock as the Chargers, out of timeouts and hope, watched helplessly while the bedlam in the stands grew.

''Our victory formation,'' Brown calls Pennington kneeling, surrounded by protectors.

He was making room for Ronnie and Ricky to roam all day long.

What do you all think, was he a great draft pick or what!!!!!

Great pick. We had too many years of not having enough time on offense.

Jake Long is just what the Tuna ordered.

Jake was absolutely the right guy. Quality player. Quality person. He will still be the right guy when he has a bad game and people start screaming that he is a bust. He will be the right guy when he dominates. Great pick.

He wasn't the sexiest pick, but based on rebuilding from the foundation up, rooting a mighty tree to grow over the next 10 years, and anchoring what could be the most important unit we field (since it's the linchpin of our offense and as such indirectly responsible for keeping our D well-rested), selection of Jake was a "No-Brainer" and one I doubt our 3-4 previous FO's would have made.

Awesome awesome answer..., he helps the "O" and he helps the "D"...

Obviously, it's too early to make a call on him as a left tackle, but it is VERY encouraging that he is already taking a leadership position in our huddle. This is exactly the kind of thing you hope to get out of a #1 pick.

Is it not quite telling that, after the NE game, all 5 O-linemen were nominated for player of the week awards? After the Chargers game, the commentators made a comment about the O-line being excelent, or some similar superlative.

This is the same line that got killed last year. We picked up Smiley (not a sexy signing) as a FA, but had to use 2 rookies on the line. Long has exceeded all expectations that i had for a rookie lineman. He has made mistakes, but has shown improvement every week, as has the whole line. We now have a better than average line, which is young and improving, rather than a weak link.

I also don't buy all the hype about the wildcat offence winning games. It is a wrinkle in the game plan, but what beat NE and SD was solid line play by both sides of the ball, not some fancy tricks. We beat up both NE and SD.

big time match up next week ( LONG VS WILLIAMS) drive him back jake.this will be fun to watch.go get him jake, and good luck.

I am satisfied with Long's play. We drafted Jumbo Elliot, and, we got him. The very fact he can come in and play servicably as an OLT proves he was a good pick. I don't think Jake is going to be a dominant pass blocker like a Joe Thomas, but, he's going to be a very good player for a long time. That was the pick I was hopeing for and, it's the one we made.

Excellent point. I'm cautiously optimistic about that matchup. Mario Williams has gotten better every season. He can bullrush, speed rush, or spin move. I'm not sure if we'll leave Jake out on an island against him, or if we'll have a tight end or back chip him.

his development so far has been great. He committed some penalties (holding and tripping i think) in his first game and now hasnt commited one since. So far so good, id say.

He represents a 'core position' for any football team. I think with a Parcells-like gameplan that focuses on the run it utilizes his strengths, though I would personally like to see him operate when we need to rely on the pass for consecutive series, which will be the true test as to whether or not we got the best value at that pick.
