Jake Long's Contract Nearly Done

Wow....Looks like the Jumbo Elliot clone won out, I guess, Fishypete...

Im a little disappointed the Glenn Dorsey wont be a Dolphin, especially with word coming out that he's not injured as bad as people think...or is that just a smokescreen???

Anything can still happen...but I doubt that Dorsey was ever a serious contender for the Dolphins.

the only way dorsey would be the pick is if BP thought he could play DE in a 3-4. otherwise, we already signed 2 or 3 DTs this free agency, so why would we pick another one?

On a positive note, i am extremely happy with the JAKE Long pick (assuming it goes thru).

Anything can still happen so i dont know how to feel about this.

I agree we desperately need O-Line help, but i'm simply just not that impressed with Jake Long. Everyone seems to say he has flaws and you never wanna hear that with the 1st pick in the draft, but he's supposedly the best in this class so i guess it cant be all bad.

I just wish there was an Orlando Pace or Joe Thomas at the top of this year's draft. And by taking Jake at 1, it opens us up to more options at #32 which i definitely like, because if we took Chris Long at #1, we'd have to go O-Line at #32 and there's no guarntee who will be left.

Im not sure why, is it because he plays out of position for the dolphins defense??? is it because the injuries in relation to the monetary compensation hed get at number 1 makes him too risky??? or is jake long just that much better than the other linemen in this draft???

Because Dorsey isn't a 3-4 NT...and he may not have the size to play as a 3-4 DE. Thats the problem...when you pick with the first pick in the draft....you have to be sure that the player fits...otherwise you are leaving yourself open to a serious mistake that can hurt your team for years.

Only one other thing could happen. We secure him and trade him to KC or someone else. It could happen, via Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers.

Could that happen...yes...but I doubt it. The Dolphins would have to get a Ricky Williams type of offer to let that happen.

Thanks Fishy...Youre correct...and if Long takes the bait of a low ball offer things will work out well...

It is hard to see a player as exciting as Dorsey or Gholston for that matter, go to another team but thats the life of the NFL...

I think its because theres a greater need at the OT position. Remember we addressed the DT/DE position in free agency with Ferguson and Starks. I think if we still played 4-3 he would definitely be the pick. But I dont see him being a good pickup for the 3-4. You know what happens when players are put in a different position/scheme than there used to playing. i think Dorsey is gonna be great for whatever team he plays for that runs a 4-3.

Na. I doubt that would be the reason. The reason more likely will be the contract itself. It would have to be acceptable to KC...and the other thing. The "Ricky Williams" type offer is not what BP/JI were looking for. They simply wanted to trade down and out of that high priced pick for something less than an absolute top notch player. And to get another pick or two out of it. That would be the problem. They simply were not looking for an outrageous offer based on this talent pool.

I also think this makes JT more likely a Dolphin.

At least thats the "word out on the street" :)

The word out is the Saints are wanting to move up....now thats a team I would love to get back at with a trade...2 number 1's...and a 5th rounder sounds just about right..
