what is the cause of his decline?
could it be the coaches that have come and gone or perhaps the zone blocking, injuries ,age or just being lazy?

Also, if Long were signed by some other team, with the size of the contract he would sign (probably with the Patriots) wouldn't the Dolphins receive a compensatory draft pick? Not exactly sure of the magic compensation pick formula; but it would probably be fairly substantial...

The Pats have no use for Jake Long as their Tackle situation is fine and they do not make reckless signings such as this. However, a team might sign Long as you suggested.

You are correct about the compensatory pick in the following draft.

Post popped up on FH stating the obvious facts in this article as early as last season only to get blasted by many who claimed its not Jake because Yada,yada,yada...Well, it was Jake and just because He was a former #1 overall does not mean He will always be awesome. He should have been benched many games ago and I hope Mia NEVER uses a 1st round pick for beef again.

My opinion his decline comes from injuries. When OL started getting back and knee injuries, it's over just a long slow decline as history has noted. Jumbo Elliot, Vernon Carey, and now Jake Long.

It's risk you take when your drafting according to Parcells planet theory; when big guys get hurt and can't use their strength they are what they are, slow.

Watch Jake Long now. There's no doubt he isn't as nimble as he once was. He gets Pro Bowl votes based on past reputation. No way in hell is is a Pro Bowl player now. He just looks like an average guy at left tackle. He gets abused too often and that never happened before. I agree with people who say his past injuries have slowed him and he will never be the same.
