The talk about Jamar Taylor considering giving up football was, in the end, just talk. It was the result of a high draft pick frustrated over making virtually no impact his rookie year.
But to hear — and see — Taylor as he embarks on Year 2 as a Dolphins cornerback is to know things have changed.
“It’s a big difference,” Taylor said.
Take Tuesday as the Dolphins opened three-day mini-camp inside their practice bubble to dodge the rain. There was Taylor, lining up with the starters, making an interception and tracking down speedy receiver Mike Wallace on an end-around so adeptly that receiver Brandon Gibson rushed onto the field to praise him.
Also a little on Landry:
In good hands with Landry: Receiver Jarvis Landry, the second-round pick from LSU, continues to impress with what is becoming a habit: catches made while extending his 5-foot-11 frame. Landry also fielded kickoffs and punts and said he’s comfortable with both.
“It’s coming,” Landry said of his overall progress. “I think playing in the SEC, it gave me the opportunity to play at this game speed, kind of. It’s a little faster, of course, but at the same time, it’s knowing what you’re doing that allows you to play fast.”
The pre-draft knock on Landry was his speed, but Philbin called him “sneaky quick and sneaky fast. Not a lot of hesitation in his game.”
