"It was to the point last year I thought I was done playing football,” Taylor told the Statesman. “I didn’t want to play anymore. I was out of it. Thank God for my girlfriend, my family, my pastors and God — because I made it through and kept working. I’m really looking forward to this year. I’m going to turn a lot of heads."

Is it just me or is this really alarming? Why on earth would he even consider giving up football in a injury-plagued rookie season?

It's good to know in the face of adversity he kept going. That off year could make him even better than he could have been.

When you play a sport for as long as he has, and then that sport gets taken away from you when it's not your fault it does get demoralizing as a person. He was as down as a player can be especially since he was a rookie.

He's back and 100% healthy and im expecting big things from him.

He had a real tough time last season. Not easy coning in with high expectations, moving across the country then getting injury setbacks again and again

I swear sometimes i feel some of the NFL Cheerleaders are mentally tougher then some of these guys out there.

Jamar Taylor was on a glide path to the NFL, one of the nation’s top cornerback prospects and a possible first-round pick.

Then came a routine physical at the NFL Scouting Combine, with results that rocked his world.

Taylor’s creatinine levels were high, an indication that his kidneys were operating well below capacity. Turns out, medication for chronic high blood pressure had severely damaged the organs. If untreated, Taylor’s kidneys might have eventually failed.

“I never knew about it, honestly,” Taylor said this week, speaking to the Miami Herald about the condition for the first time. “I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’

“It never bothered me,” he said. “I never [urinated] blood or anything like that. I always played football, played fast, did my thing.”

Although reversible, the condition caused interested teams to step back. Taylor fell out of the first round and all the way to the 54th pick, where the Dolphins took a chance on a player who they envisioned as a future starter.

Happens to a lot of young NFL players. Nick Eason played nearly a decade in the NFL but as a rookie disappeared from Denver's training camp and went home. A few other players have done the same thing. Then you had guys like Quinn Pit**** who did a few weeks of a training camp and realized he didn't want to sacrifice that much time into being a pro.

It's a completely different animal from college. Between being in an unfamiliar environment with no familiar faces, being constantly injured, and not being able to play it had to weigh on him. I think the difference is he had a better support system than a guy like Jonathan Martin and he was actually became close with his pro teammates (he jokes with Will Davis and Brent Grimes on twitter all the time).

As long as he has his head on straight he'll be fine

I would imagine being injured and not being able to contribute really would hurt your mentality. Just sounds like he was in a tough place last season, but is now healthy and ready to turn a new leaf. I am glad Daytona posted the link to the thread I created last August, because myself and others picked up that he was going through a rough time.

Glad he was able to work through it and is ready to go this season. I have seen a few sports writers with "sources" saying that Taylor has really impressed the team this offseason and they expect big things from him this year.

Good read. I do not see it alarming at all, and do not believe anyone here know all the problems he went through. Miami is not very forthcoming on player injuries. That had to be really tuff on the kid. As he said, he was ant as fast, not as quick, etc.

However, he has turned it around, is looking to turn some heads, with no concern on competition when healthy. Wishing him All The Best.

Didnt know his injuries were that bad, gotta be tough on a rookie with high expectations as a 2nd round pick. Glad he toughed it out because he has some serious potential and i hope we get to see him more this year.

This might be a little far fetched, and don't get me wrong I believe Jamar Taylor can be as good as he wants to be. I hope he can grab that 2nd CB spot so Finnegan or Wilson can play the slot, but I think with the moves made by Hickey in the secondary this offseason it's blatantly obvious we're trying to bring a lot more explosive plays and toughness; i.e. Delmas, Finnegan. I believe that speaks volumes about the character/mentality of the people that we already have. Not saying I count him out, just wish he would of been more confident in himself and our organization.

I think most of you underestimate the mental toughness it takes to over come any injury. Especially when you're not used to being hurt and put in such a vulnerable state.
