Good read on how OT's went from plug and play to big question marks in the last 5 years. The grades for last year's rookies were horrible. James was doing OK at RT but, got destroyed when trying to replace Albert at LT. No rookie OT did well.

Were "Big Jake" and Thomas just that good or, is there another reason for the huge drop off?

James was excellent last year and the void of a backup OT killed the team. James should have been allowed to develop at RT all year and grow. He will shine in the future.

No where near excellent. Good for a rookie is about as far as I would go, and I do like James.

More teams running 3-4's, the league is deep at both DE and OLB, with the league switching to a more pass based style they are put on islands that much more often.

James' play suffered when Albert was shelved just like all the other linemen.

James was excellent last season
He gave up the third most sacks in the first 8 games
He gave up the most QB hits in the first 8 games
He gave up the most QB hurries in the first 8 games
and those numbers were when we had Albert playing

Don't even look at his numbers the second half of the season, it's not pretty

If you consider his play excellent then you must have loved Clabo

I don't know the numbers around the rest of the league but those seem a little off. Is that for all RTs? OTs? OL in general? he was pretty much the worst OT in the league the first 8 games going by that, and it apparently only got worse...

True, but a large number of DEs and OLBs takenbearly in the draft dont work out either...

Jarvis Jones, Dion Jordan, Mingo, Werner, Coples... The list is long.

If this is true this blows. I wonder what his sophomore slump will look like. Hopefully he doesn't have one. But I'm not counting on Albert staying healthy at all so we're fuked!

James was thrown into the fire at RT and LT.
I think both experiences will help him this year.
Sure, his numbers from last year were terrible, but he was far from embarrassing like Jon Martin was in his first year.
Typically, years ago, OL players developed on the bench for a couple of seasons, but Ireland left the team in such disarray that Benton really had no choice but to plat the rook's.

Got a link to the subjective website that said he was that bad?

I think James' problem is he isn't powerful. Technique seems good, but I don't recall him ever really pushing guys around.

For o-lineman, I'll take technique over power 10 out of 10 times. James will be just fine for us at RT.
