When it comes to individual rivalries, at least in the NBA, there is no three-man weave.

"For some reason," Heat coach Pat Riley says, "it's hard for people to get more than two names of phenoms out of their mouths. It was Robertson and West, Chamberlain and Russell, Bird and Magic."

And at the 2003 NBA draft, Riley acknowledges, "it was James and Anthony."

But over the past three years, that has changed. LeBron and Carmelo has given way to LeBron and Dwyane.

"That's the way it seems like it's worked out," Wade says. "We're both in the Eastern Conference; our records are up there. We see each other four times a year, and the Nuggets and Carmelo -- we only see them twice a year."

The association between the Heat's Wade and the Cavaliers' James is a friendship, a rivalry, and even more than that, it's a constant. When Wade won the Skills Challenge at last month's All-Star Saturday, James was runner-up. Then James was named MVP of the All-Star Game the next night, but Wade scored the winning basket for the Eastern Conference.

.......funny the others had championships to go along with the rivalry.Maybe when one of them wins a championship.

It may not ever be Bird vs. Magic, but from what I saw yesterday, it should be great. I usually don't watch non-laker games (generally too busy and such), but I got a chance to sit down and watch the Heat-Cavs game and I was not disappointed. Every time Wade hit a shot, LeBron answered and vice versa. That fourth quarter was a thing of beauty.

Then today, Kobe goes for 22 in the third alone. Just an incredible performance from all three this weekend. Add Chauncey Billups to that list too, now that I think of it. Man, good B-ball weekend.

I still think Melo vs. Lebron is a bigger rivalry simply because they'll always be linked side by side just like Bird and Magic!

it won't be like bird and magic cuz they will never play for the title inless bron goes to a west team

It is somewhat depressing that the greatest rivalry between players in the NBA is with two guys who have barely started their careers. Hopefully they build a decent team around Lebron....mabey they can fix another draft to get him Oden. The NBA desperately needs a star driven team to supplant the Spurs and Pistons.

They bring out the absolute best in eachother its amazing to watch them go at eachother like they do, Its not an all time great match up yet, but in the current NBA I cant think of a better one

how about they learn how to play defense so each of them aren't going for 40+ every time they play.

i hate dwayne wade. I think the guy is so overrated. just because he can dunk doen't mean he's good. can the guy shut anyone down? hell no. is there even anyone in the east worth playing against besides james and the pistons? all the best wingmen are in the west.

also, kobe is the best player in the league. he can do it on both ends, unlike the people everyone puts on the pedestals. wade, iverson, mcgrady, all the rest of those guys, can't play d. plus, kobe does this every night against the best defenders in the league.

If you watched when the Heat and Cavs play you would know he doesnt guard James when they play, James guards him but not the other way around

BTW Wade does play D, he comes up with a lot of steals and blocked shots, you cant doubt his intensity

Spoken like somebody that doesn't know what he is talking about.

Wade was second team ALL NBA defense last year. he will at least be 2nd team this year again...if not 1st team ALL NBA DEFENSE.

he didn't guard james....James did guard him though.

Is there anybody worth playing against in the east besides james and the Pistons? (You actually asked that?)

The east has the best perimeter players...what are you talking about?

it's not even close.

East perimeter players:

Vince Carter
Allen Iverson
Dwayne Wade
Paul Pierce
Gilbert Arenas
Michael Redd

That is not counting the Piston guys or Lebron James.

Try to come up with a better list than that from the west.

I like the KG vs Duncan rivalry.Kg usually out preforms Duncan but the spurs always get the W :(
