I feel the need to cap off the much needed publicity the 72' Dolphins have gotten. So on this day 33 years ago, Don Shula's Miami Dolphins capped "their perfect season (17-0) with a 14-7 victory over the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII."

The best part is that next season the climb towards perfection starts all over again. A team like the Colts, even with a superstar Qb couldn't do it. Every year that passes, and no team actually goes perfects, makes the accomplishment of the '72 Dolphin's team that much more special. Here's to hoping that no team ever does. :drinkers:

One of the best days ever. I still can feel how nervous I was early in the game. It can't be understated that game didn't exactly look like a cinch, especially after the debacle against Dallas a year earlier. The Redskins destroyed the Cowboys two weeks before we beat them.

Then there was the stunning realization in the 2nd quarter that we were the superior team and were likely to win, followed by an entire half of "hang on baby and don't screw up." Only Garo did. You could immediately sense it would last as a remarkable accomplishment. Plus the followup title in '73 immunized against claims of fluke or not a special team.

Great thread didn't even realize it was today! Did any NFL commentators even say something about it today?

You would think the anniversary of that rare of an accomplishment is something that would be celebrated by places like ESPN. Maybe I just missed it.

wow. that was at the l.a. coliseum, wasn't it? i'll bet the air was a lot cleaner back then!

i always remember looking back at summaries of the game and thinking "if garo would have made that FG it could have been the only shutout in super bowl history, 17-0." the team got the only 17-0 that really matters, though.

Yes, at the Coliseum. But I had never been to California at that point. When I flew out for my first year at USC one of the first things I did was walk over to the Coliseum and beholded the place, trying to envision the famous plays and the atmosphere.

I think about that twin 17-0 aspect also. Plus it would make the team look more dominant. Every time the team is questioned one of the thing they point out is the playoff wins of 6, 4 and 7 points. Make that 17 and it forces those morons to shut up.
