Most of the mocks I've seen project Jarrad Davis to be available when we pick at #22. He is in the new mold of smaller, faster linebackers. Davis diagnoses plays extremely quickly and hits like a train. The more film I watch of Davis, the more I like him. He played some of his best football against elite competition like Alabama, FSU, Georgia, Clemson and the U of Miami. Davis has big time sideline to sideline speed and also is expert at shooting gaps to destroy plays. He's is also known to simply blow up offensive linemen with his brute power on the way to making plays. He is likened to Jonathan Vilma which is pretty good territory since Vilma was the rookie of the year and amassed some pro bowls in his career.

I know that edge rusher is a priority greater than LBer and we have our eyes on some excellent players like Jordan Willis, Tico Charleton and even Hassan Reddick who can play either with his hand in the ground or standing up and any of these players would be great but in the event our choices at Edge are gone we should take a hard look at Davis. I think he would turn out to be an outstanding pick. He would be an instant day one difference maker and would bring much needed speed to our defense. This kid is a football player all the way and called the signals for the complex Florida Gator defense. He comes with a high motor, great passion for the game and the toughness to play hurt. With all the names being thrown around at LBer, Davis gets lost in the shuffle a bit but this is a kid that will do his talking for some lucky team on Sunday's.

I would argue that linebacker is a higher priority than edge rusher, as we have less at the position currently. Hassan Reddick could fill in at both spots, which would be nice. I haven't seen Jarrad Davis film yet, but I have heard good things. Does he have good coverage instincts?

I know I'm in the minority, but I would rather see Davis or Reddick over Reuben Foster. Foster has too many red flags IMO. The diluted sample, his weight and the system he played in (Alabama players always look good in college).
I'm not saying he's not a good player, I just think he's a bit overrated. He will also need to add 5-10 lbs to take the pounding as a MLB in the NFL. I don't recall where I read it, but in his 1st few years at Alabama he had trouble understanding the playbook. He is more of visual learner i.e put him on the field and show him the formation.
Gase is a cerebral coach, NFL play books are more complex and MLB on the Phins will be playing BB and TB twice a yr. We need a quick study and instinctive LB playing the middle.
Just my humble opinion.

Foster worries me as well. I guess I would take him at 22, but only if the other options were not available.

He is projected as a 3 down LBer with very good to excellent coverage skills. Go check out some tape. You'll come away feeling pretty good about him. He's no consolation prize, the kid is stud football player. USA today has a 2nd round projection on him, they say he's a bit heavy footed going backwards in pass coverage. They also say he's the perfect mix of old school and new school LBer. Loves to knock opponents out with violent blows between the tackles and has the speed to chase anyone down. He has a high level of presence and power when filling lanes. Man, when was the last time we had an enforcer type at LBer? He sounds like exactly what this defense needs. On Foster, USA says more of a reaction player than one who can forecast and anticipate, takes inaccurate angles. On Cunningham, easily moved by blockers, lack of bulk and takes false steps. Those remarks are just some of the cons on those players, they also say that Cunningham is a gazelle playing LBer!!! The highest rated OLB is Haason Reddick, then Ryan Anderson and Takkarist McKinley. Top ILBs are Foster, Cunningham, and Anthony Walker.

My favorites for #22 are Forrest Lamp and Jarrad Davis. DE can wait a bit, very deep class this year.

BTW, USA Today's mock draft left me pretty underwhelmed as to who they see Miami picking at #22. It's CB Gareon Conley from Ohio State. At this point in their mock Lamp, Njoku, McDowell, Corey Davis and Budda Baker are still on the board. They suggest that this could be a spot where trading down makes sense but it takes two to tango. I hope the draft doesn't shake out like this, they have the Ravens taking Charles Harris at 16, the Skins take Peppers, the Titans STEAL REDDICK from us at 18, Tampa takes RB Cook, Denver takes O.J. Howard at 20, Detroit PICKS OUR POCKET AND TAKES TACO!!!!!!! so here we are at #22 with choices dwindling, in this scenario I'm picking Lamp and then I'm going to try to come up a bit to get Davis in the second.

I agree with this. I think I would gor Reddickfirst because he seems to be more versatile, good tape and lastly a good combine. Foster next, the tape does not lie, I don't care if he played at Bama, then lastly Davis. This is not to slight him, maybe I need to see more tape.....I don't know, I guess I'd be happy with any of the 3. I do think LB, G and Safety are greater needs then DE.

I was just looking at those red flags this morning and it goes even deeper than what you listed........Yikes! Great player, but those past issues are going to rear their ugly head at some time or another.....minor or major I don't know, but they will resurface in some form. Some things are hard to shake in this life.

Outback, we all, pretty much, love Reddick but reality is that he'll be gone. He's mocked to the Titans at #18 in USA Today but I saw him projected to #15 elsewhere. I think the ceiling on Jarrad Davis is freaking Mike Singletary who was picked by the Bears at #38 in his draft. Singletary and Davis are very close in size and both have significant presence on the field. I remember watching Singletary play and the camera would show his intense eyes waiting for the snap so he could crush somebody. Only Zach Thomas would come close to the intensity that Singletary played with as far as Dolphin players but it's been forever since we had that enforcer type at LBer. Jarrad Davis is mocked by many as late first or early second, somewhere around #38. We could trade back from #22, snag Davis and load up on some more picks. We could turn those picks into OG, Edge and Safety....or maybe Tight End.

I'm all in if Singletary is there! Or even Singletary 2.0!

I agree with your assessment after reading you post before mine. I should have said, "Reddick...if he slides" . I would think Reddick would be the beneficiary of a possible Foster slide if anything. I'd also love a trade down for an extra pick or two and still snag Davis.

there are a crop of players i would not mind at #22, and none that would absolutely blow me away more than any of the others - minus a trade up for hooker, reddick, or foster dropping...

willis, davis, taco, lamp....all would satisfy me. getting more comfortable with the#22 pick as time goes on.

Davis is rising and will likely be a first rounder.

I like him and would be ok with picking him...I just like some players better at 22...like Reddick and Willis. I don't see taking him over Foster unless Foster medical is in question.

If we do go Davis I hope we trade down for him and get Demarcus Walker DE/FSU in round 2...Willis and the other DE's that can pass rush will likely be gone.

I think edge rusher being one of the critical positions in football now...makes our 22nd pick a priority to reload that position.

Bluefin, I agree and I think it's very doable as far as trading back goes. I'm warming to the ides since we get more choices and this draft has a ton of value between 22 and say 45. If we can trade down and get Davis at say 33 to 38 and pick up an additional 3 the draft is off to a great start. After Davis, depending, of course, on the board, we should nail down the best Guard on the board. There should be plenty of quality to choose from like Feeney, Pocic or Elflien, all 3 of these guys fit the bill and would come in and start day one imo.

What percentage of the snaps do you think Davis gets should we draft him (pauses from nausea) in the first?
