This is an offshoot of Flip's thread comparing Landry to other 2014 WR's drafted. IMO, it's not fair to do that as he played mostly in the slot (77%), and a different position with opportunities for big plays and number not the same. We only threw to him 18 times over 10 yards and he caught 9, with a long of 25 yards. However. that does not diminish what he did this year. Here's a closer look.

In the slot, he caught 63 of 78 for 623 yards, a 9.9 average, 4 TD's and only 2 drops.
Out of the slot, he was 21 of 27 for 123 yards, a 5.8 average, 1 TD and 0 drops.

Overall he caught 55 of 63 between 0-9 yards, and 20 of 22 behind the line. He ranked #7 in blocking, did not have a single penalty all year, and 407 of his yards were after contact, an average of 4.8. Add in the kick returns as well.

All in all, he had a hell of a year as a rookie, and was the 2nd best slot receiver in the NFL after Cobb. Can't wait to see what he does this year.

Thanks for the info SB. Looks like we found a gem.

I like this kid. I was stoked when we drafted him.

Me too, I can only see him getting better and better.

Now if Hickey can just acquire some more playmakers on both sides of the ball, maybe talent alone will be able to overcome our HC's ineptitude.

These stats pretty much show that A. You need Mike Wallace (or a Mike Wallace type) and B. You don't consider Landry as the WR opposite of Mike Wallace . . . you need ANOTHER guy.

Landry needs to be the slot WR at all times, and have 2 guys outside to open up the field for him to do more damage and get more YAC.

He's an essential part and perfect fit for the type of offense we run, but know his limitations and keep him in those "winning" situations.

Definitely need another guy with or without Wallace. I would scream if we get a big time #1 and keep Wallace and Landry on the field at same time. This and a healthy TE or two would make the O dangerous.

FWIW, Landry did have a TD this year playing X while we slid Hartline to his inside in the slot. That's half of BH's total TD production at the position in just a fraction of the snaps. :idk:

I see him as a slot only guy as well, and next year trying to throw more over 10 yards to give him chances to cause a missed tackle and use his open field return skills. He only played 700 snaps (62%) which was around 140 less than Wallace and Hartline but, due to fewer snaps the fist 4 games. He has become Tannehill's security blanket and expect a 20% increase in snaps and production next year. We have a lot more to see from him.
