Jarvis Landry: Rookie of the Year Possible for Dolphins WR?

I said tongue in cheek a few weeks ago to some friends it'd be Landry.

We all know that it'll be a certain media darling in Cleveland not named LeBron. :tubes:

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Landry has definetly shown signs of becoming something special, but lets not crown him jerry rice just yet.

I think Gibson would have to have a bad injury fairly early on for him to have a real shot...not that he won't be good enough.

I could see Landry getting Rookie of the year FOR the Dolphins team.

But NFL Rookie of the year? No. Sorry.

Landry will show flashed I'm sure, and make amazing catches that will get everyone in FH all giddy.

But Landry will not out produce someone like Watkins, Cooks, etc...

My money is on Johnny Football.

PR move, and the media is already on his nuts.

seeing how Gibson is moving he is back to full health. he was our best WR I felt before he went down. he is going to lead the team in receiving TDs. While being behind the top 3 WRs its hard to see Landry as ROY. eventually this team has to choose between Hartline Gibson and Landry (years down the road) thats when Landry will breakout fully

Sammy Watkins is freaking amazing but EJ Manuel is hot garbage.

Gonna be tough for him to win Rookie of the Year when he's got EJ throwing the ball into a DT's chest every other dropback.

they never give awards like this to fins players.

and too many balls gonna be passed around.

and i predict you wont see him splash unitl midseason with flashes early. If he wows on punt returns ala devin hester all bets are on.

Nobody likes a RB to win it? Sims from TB would be my choice, with Sankey and White from NE 2nd and 3rd (for RBs)

If everybody stays healthy I could see Hartline, Wallace, Gibson and Matthews getting more targets than Landry this season. I think someone like Sammy Watkins will have twice as many passes thrown his way and will get a lot more media attention.

If Watkins gets enough production to earn that award, then i'll start carving out his Hall of Fame bust immediately. Not that i doubt Watkins, hes the real deal, but EJ Manuel is atrociously awful. That the Bills are stuck with him for, at least, 2 more years is something ive taken a great amount of delight in.

Anyways, on to the subject:

Are people tired of hearing about Brandin Cooks' daily exploits yet? I honestly don't think that we in the media are over-hyping the Saints' rookie receiver. He simply makes one or two of the biggest plays on the practice field every day. As quarterback Luke McCown said Monday, "He's got next level speed ... and quickness. We find him in positions where he's just separating from guys regularly." That was absolutely the case again Monday during an otherwise-sloppy practice in the rain. As Cooks said, he's from Corvallis, Oregon, so he's used to this weather. Cooks had two breakaway plays for big gains on short passes -- once cruising about 75 yards for a touchdown on a screen pass. Cornerback Keenan Lewis valiantly gave chase the whole way but didn't really have a chance. "He's a special player," McCown said. "I think that's easily recognized for any amount of time you spend watching him. He's a smart, heady player that you only have to teach a certain route or step or technique once, and he's got it down, and he begins to operate like a veteran. So the sky's the limit for that kid."

Rookie receiver Brandin Cooks is one of those guys who lets his play on the field do the talking for him. Luckily for the New Orleans Saints, Cooks has the volume cranked all the way up.

The Saints’ first-round draft pick delivered a dynamic performance in his preseason debut Friday night, catching five passes for 55 yards in a 26-24 victory over the St. Louis Rams. The highlight was a stop-and-go move on a 25-yard touchdown catch that might still have a couple of Rams defensive backs spinning in place inside Edwards Jones Dome.

Time for your daily Brandin Cooks highlight reel: The Saints' dynamic rookie receiver had two nifty catches in Tuesday's practice. He burned cornerback Trevin Wade with a sharp cut for a big gain on a screen pass. And he caught a touchdown pass in the back of the end zone from Luke McCown. ... Normally, rookies have to adjust to the “speed of the NFL game.” But Cooks was asked whether he feels like he's reversing that trend and making defenders adjust to his speed. “Well, I have to use my strengths to my advantage, and that's my speed. As far as the speed of the game, it's not that much different to me,” Cooks said. “But how smart people are, that's the different part from college to the NFL. That's where you have to work on your game.”

And theres more. Much more. But hey, we got a solid tackle, total worth passing on. :bobdole:

So yeah, i fully expect Cooks(provided he stays healthy) to win the award. He will get the throws and sure as hell has the ability. Hes a special player, which is why some of us wanted Miami to draft him.
And while i dont expect him to win the award(based on their quarterback situation), i wouldnt be surprised if Marqise Lee(another coveted prospect who i would have loved for us to draft at 19) enters the conversation either. Hes quietly playing well in Jacksonville:

...Receiver Marqise Lee has been the best rookie in camp. The former USC standout was lining up with the first team even before Cecil Shorts (hamstring) got hurt. Quarterback Chad Henne said he has been impressed by Lee’s ability to understand coverages and adjust his routes, something they both attributed to Lee playing in a pro-style offense at USC.

Sullivan is going to provide an update on the progress of rookie receiver Marqise Lee, who has been the team's most impressive rookie -- and its best receiver in camp.

The receivers had a much better day on Tuesday after what was a terrible performance on Monday, when they dropped multiple passes while running routes against air. Marqise Lee made a great catch along the sideline on an out pattern in which he quickly got both feet in bounds.
