Allen has agreed to make a 6 year deal possible, but wants to be paid better for a 6 year deal than the Dolphins are currently offering.

Still the length of the deal was the biggest obstacle and apparently it has been cleared.

EDIT: Also the Eagles have apparently signed Broderick Bunkley, as per PFT.

EAGLES BAG BUNKLEY

A league source tells us that the Philadelphia Eagles and defensive tackle finally have come to terms with defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, the team's first-round draft pick.

We're told that the deal has a base value of more than $12.5 million, with nearly $10 million in guaranteed money.

The primary sticking point was whether the deal would be five years or six years in length. We're told that the deal is indeed a six-year package, but that it contains an escalator that would push his final year salary to the franchise tender for defensive tackles in 2011. Bunkley needs to make it to the Pro Bowl three times in five years to trigger the maximum number, with lower triggers resulting in a smaller escalators.

There is every reason to think the Phins and Allen will examine the Bunkley deal and follow suit with a similar one. Allen should sign soon.

Good news, he needs to be in camp.

yeah bunkley just signed for 6 i saw, i dont know if it'll have any bearing, but either way just get the kid in camp... give him a few extra bucks for the extra year, both sides need to give some...

Sheesh...hopefully he isn't demanding too much more.

well, if he's making the concession on length, then we should up the ante. i dunno, i would rather have him in camp then be super hardline on negotiations and try to give him a less favorable deal than the other picks near his slot.

The Bunkley deal clearly reflects Brod's apprehensions about a 6 year deal.

I think the Allen deal should have a similar escalator that bumps his 6th year salary to the level of the franchise tender for safeties. The Dolphins should be able to swallow that, because the franchise tender for safeties is low.

But Allen might insist that it could be unfair to do so if Allen is a pro bowl corner by that time...because franchise tender for corners is much higher than safeties I believe.

Yeah he really needs to be in camp, he might have to play CB depending on how all these injuries turn out.

Allen will stay at safety. Travis Daniels is fine. It's an ankle sprain.

Thanks for the heads up on that! :D

I'm hoping this deal gets done soon! We need him to be in TC pronto...there's only 3 guys left if thats the case with Bunkley...Leinhart not being signed is weird if you ask me...but at any rate...Allen should just realize that the more he waits the harder it'll be for him to be able to acclimate himself in this complicated defense...

Thanks CK.

Finally some positive news... Lets get this done before the weekend!!!

I agree. Just get this kid to camp already. We are a better team with him than without him.
