Seems like every time he actually gets on the field this kid plays pretty well... Lots of speed and tackling ability, I know he's gotten beat deep in the past but he seems to perform better than most of our secondary overall... It makes me wonder why he doesn't see more playing time ??

He's a good tackler, but he doesn't have the IQ

I agree with you that he is not the smartest guy in the world, but how many of the best NFL players are really that smart?

I think it's more about athletic ability, and this kid seems to have it, I think once he learns more about NFL schemes and defenses, he will be very good ( just taking him a while since like you said he isn't the brightest)

All I've ever said about JA is... when on the field... he makes plays... he may play better than he practices... who knows... and maybe that has something to do with the "perception" of his ability... we'll see.

I'd encourage everyone to clean the slate on JA and watch his play.

Derek Hagan is a high IQ guy but thats not helping either. I think its because he doesnt do good in practice. I think he might be covering BRandon Marshall next week, if he shuts down marshall, best believe he will be our new starting CB. Also Will Allen is like 30 so we will need a replacement in a year or two.

Oh man, if Jason Allen is covering Brandon Marshall we could be in trouble. Or he could gain a lot of respect around here if he does well. But why wouldn't Will Allen be covering him?

im not sure, I think Will will cover marshall but, if its not will then I want Jason because big recievers abuse goodman way too much.

From what I've seen I'm starting to wonder if the secondarys troubles have more to do with the secondary coach's packages and less to do with individual players abilities or lack thereof.

Everytime Allen gets on the field he seems to be in the thick of it. As a secondary player goes there will be times that you get beat and sure he has been beat, but last week when they did make plays on him they were not big ones. He did a lot more good than bad. He seems to be one of those players that if you tell go guard that guy you better believe that he will win a good share of the battles. The fins need to take the brain out of his game and let him play. His special team play is a perfect example. He plays big, and fast, he just needs a shot to let his talent out. I think the staff is beginning to see this.

I would rather have a guy like that who plays better then he practices, then lets say Hagan who seems to be good at practice then sucks in games.

[w]hy wouldn't Will Allen be covering him?

I thought J did well on James Hardy (6'6), and Brandon Marshall is probably more similar a receiver to Hardy than to Lee Evans...though much much better than hardy.

If I'm the coach, I'm having Will Allen cover Marshall because Will Allen is our best corner right now.

I love J's size as a corner, though. 6'1, 200. We've never had that as long as I've been watching religiously.

I've been wondering this myself. It seems like JA makes EVERY special teams tackle and I swear he's in the thick of a lot of good defensive plays. Hell, I thought he was going to be a starter at the beginning of the season.
