Now that Bell will be the starting Strong Safety, and Tillman is being demoted to second team, do you think Jason Allen will play in dime packages instead of Tillman like he did in our last game?

Jason Allen needs to get a lot more playing time. I would start him over Hill at free safety. He needs to start justifying our 1st round selection of him.

do think he will. Did u see that play last week were he broke on the ball and about to the wr's head off. Besides Saben dont really have a choice, were losing and he needs the playing time.

Yeah I saw it, and not only that but I noticed him on a few plays at the end of the first half. He looks fast, and aggressive.

Allen's problem is not talent, it is knowledge. I don't know if he is smart enough to ever get it but if he is he will be a very good S for us.

I don't know why you would say that. He's not getting it because he only had 2 weeks to learn it, and was switched to corner in the preseason because of injuries. Saban said it himself that it is hard to learn what he needs to during the regular season because everyweek they are game planning for the next opponent.

Jason Allen I believe graduated from School early, and I have heard an interview where he has said he wants to go into law after his football career is over. That doesn't sound like someone that's not smart enough to learn the system. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006/allen_jason

Here is a quote from the above article to support what i'm saying.

MENTAL ALERTNESSSection Grade: 5.5Allen is no doubt a smart young man when you consider that he has already graduated from Tennessee,

Just goes to show you how much people know. Just because a player doesn't pick up on a system quickly or at all, people like to personally attack them by calling them "dumb", or by saying that the player is simply "not smart enough". In another thread someone said DC at 100 percent healthy is still "dumb as a brick", but I'm more inclined to believe that the poster has more relevance to a "brick" than DC.

Allen was a wasted pick. I say that meaning this year and he may prove to be usefull somewhere at some position down the road but Saban screwed the pooch again by wasting the 16th overall pick on someone who held out on us saying he was worth it and is only good enough to play ST's. We could have gotten a more usefull safety in the 7th round IMO.

Saban needs to get him Allen in there - its not like we are contending or anything. The only way for him to learn is in real game time situations, let him make the normal rookie mistakes and learn from them.

I didn't call him dumb or anything else. I said "I" wasn't sure if he was smart enough to get it, that is it. Fact of the matter is, I (along with most of us) know very little about these guys.

Beside book smarts and football smarts are two different things.

Having said that, I am not a JA basher. I am not sure about him but I am certianly not calling him a bust.

:shakeno: <Shoulder shrug>

One season of not playing doesn't make him a waste.

Given that information, I really have to wonder why he is not playing more.

I think it goes to show how much damage it can do to a team by holding out. I think a rookies value deminishes when he holds out and I think all teams should reduce thier sighn on bonuses for holding out because they are making themselves less valuable, esspecially in the cases of first rounders and players who are expected to go straight into starter postions. We have basically lost a whole season on him now because he or his agent was overly stubborn and greedy. I think its absurd to pay these guys the money we pay them before they have even proven themselves, and on top of that they got the balls to hold out of camp for more money. then we as the fans get raped to go the games or buy the parraphenala that goes along with being a fan. Sorry Im sick of the greed by owners n players alike and it's us the fans that suffer for it. This probally the wrong place to post this but jason allen is a prime example of it.
