....I hope the salaries aren't close because I know which I would rather have.

This seems an awful lot like trying to fill a hole with a piece of gum instead of getting a new wall. I hope I am wrong.

I just posted something similar to this in another thread that if Grove costs 5 Mil a year I would have rather paid the extra 2.5 Mil for Brown. But you know what, who ever we sign I will support them. Dolphins RULE!

These guys are good depth at Guard as well. Last year we lost both starting Guards and our Center Satele was playing with a torn labrum....pretty poorly too I might add. Injuries are a fact in the NFL. We need better depth and competition and if one of these guys is an upgrade than even better.

Obviously, we will support whoever is out there. I will be curious to see his contract though. I was reading carefully over the draftable centers...and I wasn't blown away...they are nice products but not dominating ones. So, I guess in this way it might be a blessing. I still like a center in the 2nd or 3rd round but its nice not to have to have one.

Lets wait and see the terms before we jump to conclusions. As far as I know, Berger's contract details have not even been released.

No one is jumping to conclusions. We are just asking the question. Heck maybe Grove cost three M a year and Berger close to minimum. Who knows? Maybe we will find out.
Regardless its the decision that was made.

I hope so to, but hey Grove when healthy to a mean SOB, and is an upgrade at center:up:, hopefully his contract is not stupid cause we have lots of holes to fill:d-day:

His contract is ridiculous...14 million in guarantees...6 million a year average...thats not much off of Brown's. The Trifecta better know something that most don't.

All this Brown worship. For what? Some make like the guy is the second coming of Dwight Stephenson. I bet half the guys pining for him didn't even know who Brown was before FA. If he was that good, Baltimore would have held on to him.

Not sure what Berger has to do with this. Berger may not even make the team.

If we'd entered a bidding war for Brown his price would of probably gone up.

As it is we have a respected center, who can play Guard, and a versatile interior lineman - both upgrades on last year and a returning center who can cover/push for a starting role at Guard.

We also save some cash for another position and give ourselves more flexibility during the draft.

I think it is somewhat humorous how some of you people talk about what the team spent on a player. Why do any of you really care what the team spent on a certain player? It's not your money.

For me personally, the only reason I would care, is if the money the team spent on one player kept the team from getting other needed help due to lack of funds. That is clearly not the case in this instance.

Exactly. Same applies to most FAs out there. They hear that 'player x' is good and then all of a sudden we need that player.

Like the guy on here the other day talking about the best safeties in the league and said we need guys like "reese and palomatu" or something like that. Obviously referring to Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu.

Matt Birk is a six time pro bowler...Jason Brown played against us twice this year and we didn't get any push on him and he was considered by any service to be one of the top prospects in free agency...Jake Groves has barely played 50% of his games during his career and we gave him a contract that far outreaches Birk and is close to Brown. Maybe Groves is ready to explode...but that would be almost clairvoyance rather than a smart business decision.
