Jason Cole: Marino NOT impressed with Philbin's handling of Tannehill

This is fair. You have a short window to get the players to buy in and that window is closing fast if its not already shut. But you can't blame him for taking the risk then, and maybe not even now. :nothing ventured, nothing gained:

Right. And honestly I don't blame Philbin for making that call. if you want to see if Tannehill is your guy, you start him.
I think Tannehill may have had better luck sitting behind Moore for a while, but I do also know that Moore's ability has dropped off here and there. He's not a top 10 QB by any means, Miami knows that, fans know that.
However we're now finding out that Tannehill has a ways to go to become the QB we want him to be. Philbin hitched himself to that wagon and now he's got to make it work.

He is a coach killer. He's gotten poor Sherman fired not once but twice in under three years. Ireland fired. Philbin, Lazor and Hickey about to be fired. I'm sure there are exceptions but I would say a general rule of thumb is if you leave a trail of bodies in your wake you might be the problem.

You do realize that Sherman had other qb's at A and M and still was not a big success. Sherman underachieved the whole time at Texas A+M. As for Philbin he is digging his own grave, about as good a head coach as he is a father. Hickey couldn even win the top job in the organization that knew him best and Lazor well he knew Philbin was the coach. Tannehill shares blame in our losses but these guys failed on their own. Did Tannehill force Hicky to be more worried about rotational DT than starting guards or ignore linebacker?

Even Tannehill at this point is no less of a qb than Moore is. People want to live in one season, with a different scheme and feel that Moore will pick up where he was over two years ago. If Moore was any kind of answer he would have been playing or a qb desperate team would have traded for him or convinced his agent that they wanted to sign him. His agent saw the handwriting on the wall and he resigned here to be the backup that he is.

I wasn't punting on your questions. I did not know the answer and was not in a position to research it. The point you were trying to make was that Tannehill is sacked less than Wilson and Roethlisberger. I respected you enough not to dispute your facts. But since you asked, upon researching your questions on Pro Football Reference, it states that Tannehill's career sack % is 7.9, Wilson's is 8.6% and Roethlisberger's is 8.1%. So, as you correctly pointed out, Tannehill has been sacked less often that these other QB's.

Since we have established the fact that Tannehill is sacked less often (whether the numbers are significantly different is debatable), then I would expect Tannehill would have less of an obstacle to overcome. I am unclear as to why Tannehill's lower career sack % offers an explanation for his regression. His YPA season-to-date is 5.03. The next lowest YPA season-to-date is 5.44 (Derek Carr). Not only does this rank Tannehill last, but the fact that it is nearly 1/2 yard lower than the next lowest QB YPA indicates that much of his poor performance is attributable to himself rather than concomitant factors such as receiver drops or adjustment to a new offensive system.

You just punted on both questions. You completely refused to answer the first question, and you uhm... also refused to answer the second question.

How about this one, who takes more sacks over 100 dropbacks across their respective careers: Ryan Tannehill or Big Ben Roethlisberger? Which QB is the bigger sack taker?
