In his one year as GM of the Dolphins in 2004, Spielman personally set the Dolphins back for years. He traded a second-round pick for quarterback A.J. Feeley, who proceeded to help the 2004 Dolphins set an NFL record for most interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Spielman traded a third-round pick Lamar Gordon, who played two games in 2004 before getting hurt. OK, that happens. But Gordon was so bad in training camp in 2005 that the Dolphins couldn’t even trade him for a seventh-round pick and had to cut him.

Spielman had a knack with the Dolphins for angering his players. He once told linebacker Zach Thomas that Thomas was “overrated.†At least that’s how Thomas put it. Other players thought Spielman was just oddly confrontational.

WOW! He said this!? :tantrum:

Nice work Cole.... RS should be the poster child for guys that get jobs they do not deserve... I am shocked this guy is back in the NFL... err... I take that back.... not much shocks me in the NFL anymore....

Anyone read that the Lions gave Ross Verba a 5 year 20 million dollar deal.....OMG Just when you thought someone had tackled him and took away his pen he goes off and proves why he is the biggest bumbling idiot in the game today.

oh yeah, the Vikes are in the NFL.

Hey, Wade. You be nice to the Vikes now, eh.

sorry guys a little off track here but could someone let me know how to post while others are posting at the same time so i could communicate live about the thread subject, i hope that makes sense.

This was a good article - but, it's been out a while and was posted and discussed.

I am just glad we swept out Wanny/Speilman and brought in Saban who is putting the pieces back together. You can't look back....we still have the greatest winning % all-time in the NFL, even though we had to suffer through an ugly 4-12 year, before going 9-7. I think it was worth taking a step back in order to take two steps forward....at least we did not totally fall apart as a franchise the way the Oakland Raiders have.

Spielman is a case of someone working extremely hard, and being rewarded for his efforts, rather than his achievements. There is one good thing I will remember about his time with Miami.....at least he was arguing for Anquan Boldin when Wanny wanted Eddie Moore in the second round of the 2003 draft. Probably the best personnel decision Spielman ever could have made with the Dolphins was blocked by Wanny.....thus adding to the groundwork for the 2004 season that saw the end of both of them in Miami.

1 move that didn't happen, does not save him.

who the heck cleans house with a 10-6 team and makes them a 4-12 team? an incompetent gm like speilman did it like the chump he is. sure, ricky quitting hurt, but a running back was not going to save us that season.

Speilman sucks balls! I'm so sick of hearing about this shmuck and how he's such a good evaluator of talent. I'm glad Jason Cole ripped him a new one, maybe now some people might actually see that he is a terrible GM.
