Jason Cole: Tom Gamble said to be Ross' top pick for GM

Not that it matters to us but the Bucs really wanted Chris Ballard from KC. The Chiefs were willing to let him interview but he turned the job down

I thought the Chiefs denied the interview because Ballard wasn't interviewing for a job that included final say. Lovie Smith has that power in Tampa now.

Considering that Jeff Ireland was the most unpopular executive in the league and somehow kept his job despite five straight non-winning seasons and multiple fan revolts, yeah, I'd say that's a pretty stable job.
Ross does not like change so yes, next to William Clay Ford, he probably provides the most stability of the owners.

I'm told that the Chiefs were prepared to grant Ballard permission to interview for the Bucs' vacant GM job. But Ballard declined to go.

@AlbertBreer: Ballard has five kids, and moved from Houston to Chicago to Kansas City over the last few years, didn't want to move his family again.

I did earlier in this thread, jay glazer reported it.

that was pure speculation. re-read that tweet.

"Their cap situation, personnel, QB and the circus turned a lot of candidates off." One of those candidates could be 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble, who was once considered the odds-on-favorite for the job but may have spurned the Jets.

The Jets interviewed 10 candidates, selecting Idzik after a 19-day search that was coordinated by executive head hunter Jed Hughes of the Korn/Ferry consulting firm

Caldwell, Idzik and Khan were the only candidates called back for second interviews, a source said.
