Jason Cole: Tom Gamble said to be Ross' top pick for GM

Lot of candidates from that article, wow, spectacular. I feel refreshed.

If they hire Omar Khan, Bill Cowher will be our next Head Coach...GUARANTEED!!!

i stated in an article earlier that TOM GAMBLE is my GM hope above ALL others.

he is tried and trued as a personel man and respected in ALL nfl circles.

he isnt some goofy kid thats only 5 years older than the players.

PLEASE, PLEASE MR. ROSS!! HIRE GAMBLE RIGHT NOW AND I WILL TAKE BACK ALL THE BAD THINGS I SAID!!!

wow!! even though its just a rumour at this point, its much, much better than what i have been hearing all day.

This gets me pretty excited. He's had a lot of success at the places he's been. Ross lands him and Gamble gets final say on personnel I will quit hating on Ross. This would be a good move.

Philadelphia director of player personnel Tom Gamble is the top candidate to replace former Miami General Manager Jeff Ireland, a source said Tuesday night. Gamble quickly emerged as the man owner Stephen Ross wants to get to run the organization after the team’s latest shakeup.

Gamble, who returned to the Eagles this offseason to run personnel under coach Chip Kelly and President Howie Roseman, could be had because he does not have control over personnel with the Eagles. However, Gamble has a long connection with the Eagles, having started his career in NFL scouting and personnel with the team in 1988. Gamble’s father Harry was the Eagles team president at one point.

The team is also expected to interview Green Bay senior personnel executive Alonzo High-smith for the post. The team also has interest in Green Bay director of pro personnel Eliot Wolf, who is the son of former long-time NFL personnel man Ron Wolf. Aside from Highsmith and Wolf, the team has shown interest in Omar Khan of Pittsburgh and former Kansas City and New England personnel man Scott Pioli.

I literally just posted about Gamble in another thread. What I said:

Tom Gamble... left San Francisco to take a parallel job with the Eagles -- for whom he worked from 88-94 -- so it's unclear how inclined he'd be to leave. Here's a bio: http://media.philadelphiaeagles.com/media/146725/gamble-tom.pdf

And here's a video, where he's one of the members of the Eagles FO interviewed: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/n...ersonnel/a9cd427f-30b4-49f8-a511-f0354be8b61a

Side note: how ****ing great would it be for the Dolphins to do one of these videos, say, three times a year, where you get to hear, you know, multiple members of the front office staff talk about the team, talk about their philosophy, right there out in the open, not afraid about letting a crumb or two hit the floor, and not just rely on canned bull**** for 10 questions?

That's actually a solid list of candidates. Didn't expect that, this being the Dolphins and all.

Hes interviewed for other GM jobs and has been among the finalists for a couple years now. Owners seem to have a high regard for the man.

Making the lateral move to Philly was purely sentimental. If he's been this driven to run a franchise, then i suspect he will put aside his nostalgia and jump at the chance.

The curse has been lifted. Hope we can land this dude. Go Ross!

J. David Wannyheimer has got me interested in Jim Popp now, though. I'd heard the name a few times but never really dug into him. He's been the GM of the Montreal Alouettes for 20 years. Guess how many times they've made the playoffs? 20. In that time they've played for 15 division championships (their equivalent to a conference championship) and made the Grey Cup (the Super Bowl) 10 times, winning four.

Oh, and he's coached the team, too, on an interim basis. He's the one who hired Marc Trestman, after which they won a few championships, which led to Trestman getting the Bears job. He's interviewed for several NFL GM jobs, including being a finalist for the Colts job in 2012.

Gamble is a very solid, very well respected personnel man. But jeez, you know... wouldn't it be nice to be the forward thinking franchise for once? To paraphrase myself from another thread, wouldn't it be nice to be the team that takes Russell Wilson rather than looks at the next short quarterback and considers drafting him because Wilson worked out?
