I think I'd be comfortable with all those guys mentioned in this thread. Heck, it's going to be an improvement over Ireland no matter who we hire.

Aj Jenkins was a terrible first round pick for gamble
It's worth noting that the last two teams Gamble worked for -- San Fran and Philly -- are heavily into analytics. Also, somehow I'd missed that Gamble spent time as a coach. I love to see that, personally. One of the main attractions of a guy like Nick Caserio of the Patriots is that he's coached, then went into scouting, then back into coaching, and then back to scouting again.
What exactly is analytics? Like PFF kinda stuff? Also do you think Philbin is 100% safe? GM has no say so in new coach?

Sorta. Probably closer to what Football Outsiders does. Think Moneyball, if you've seen that. Basically using statistical formulas as a supplement to traditional scouting.
I wouldn't say Philbin is 100% safe -- and I have no special knowledge or insight about it -- but I doubt he would have agreed to fire one of his oldest friends if he wasn't given assurances that by doing so he was completely safe.
As for the GM, it seems like he will have no say this year. Next year, though, would be a different deal. And that's not the worst thing. Certainly it's not a totally unusual thing. It's not unheard of for a GM to come in, evaluate the head coach for a year, and then be given the latitude to fire the coach if things aren't working and hire one of his guys. Personally I would prefer to get that **** out of the way and just start over like the Colts did with Grigson and Pagano, but it's not uncommon.
