Jason Cole: Tom Gamble said to be Ross' top pick for GM

Do not **** this up by keeping Joe and Aponte...

I told you guys all along it would be Gamble! I told you!

Im so smart.

Aj Jenkins was a terrible first round pick for gamble

yeah, Im thinking people's bias preceeds them a bit. Looks worse than Ireland in his later years if you ask me. I dont even recognize 2/3rds of those names.

Calling on Datruth to break him down.

Tom Gamble becoming GM would probably make it more likely that Malzahn became head coach next year than it would be if other guys got the GM job. The last two places Gamble worked featured college coaches who came to the NFL, both of them successfully. In Chip Kelly's case, he was a controversial guy -- as Malzahn will be -- because people questioned whether the "system" would translate.

Of course, that whole thing would depend on the Dolphins having a mediocre to sub mediocre season next year and Philbin getting fired (which is usually how these inherited coaches end up after a new GM is brought in. Rex Ryan was the exception last year). Not to rain of everyone's post Ireland firing bliss, but I think we're probably in for a rocky year next year.

No! You dont say! How dare you incinuate that breaking the whole damn thing up means setting us back to below mediocrity!

Gamble would definitely be an upgrade over Ireland. That guy knows how to get talent.

well at least he didnt draft ted ginn and probly thanked Mueller tons when he ended up with Patrick Willis.

But cmon people, it shouldnt be difficult to get all pros when your picking 10 and 11th overall year after year.

49ers had the best roster in football in 2012, and they still have one of the best rosters in the NFL. If it weren't for Seattle's home field, the 49ers with Crabtree would have as good a shot as anyone of winning the SB this season.

I didn't read the whole thread but some great candidates on that list. The problem is, will any of them be ok wit having Philbin as their HC and on top of that, will they be willing to deal with Aponte? If they feel that she's going to take sides with Philbin and go behind their back talking suversive(SP?) then I don't see them coming here. Ross needed to clean house and every great GM canditade ould be trying to get in. As it is right now, most of those guys are probably scare to come to Miami.

Ozzy rules!!

A couple of notes:

1)The Eagles hired Gamble in February of last year so he wasn't connected to the 2012 draft and/or Russell Wilson at all

2)Part of the reason he went to Philly is to be closer to his family and apparently his dad is sick enough to be in hospice care so that could be a reason he might opt to stay with Philly

Very happy with this list of candidates.

None of these guys would have Philbin shoved down their throats, and would give Ross a re good evaluation of the way he handled the team down the stretch with the season on the line.

Also this would remove Aponte from an "overseer" role with the franchise. While I respect her as a capologist, I don't want her running the team.

The Senior Bowl is in 17 days, I would expect this search process and hiring to happen pretty fast. I would think whoever they hire would want at least a week before that game to get in the building and meet/hire his scouting team.

2008 was a really bad class, and outside of Crabtree 2009 isn't exactly stellar. 2012 and this past year (outside of Eric Reid) the 9ers literally did not expect anything from any of their rookies because of how deep they were. Hell one of the reasons the 9ers gambled on both Marcus Lattimore and Tank Carridine is because they could IR them.

Not saying Gamble would be good or bad, but we are doing everything just like the Jets last year. They went after Gamble, with a head coach in tow but didn't get him. Maybe we'll have better luck.

Not sure why there is so much comparison to the Jets last year because it is 2 different situations. The Jets were in salary cap hell and had no QB.
