Jason Cole: Tom Gamble said to be Ross' top pick for GM

Anyone know why Gamble was pushed out in San Fran last year?

I am not sure what happened, he was interviewing for GM jobs, he was supposedly the leader for us but then word came out he didn't interview well and some other things and then he took a lower level job w/ the Eagles.

Im reading that he wanted to move back to Philly to be with his family, which makes me wonder if he's even willing to move to Miami. It also sounds like he wasnt pushed out in SF, he left on his own accord.

How can you seriously think this is not a coveted job? It's one of 32 in the world. It's in a beautiful city, there are no state taxes, an owner that is hands off and job security is pretty damn good. They have a young QB that has shown enormous potential, a decent roster and a large amount of cap space.

Do I like Dawn Aponte and Joe Philbin? Not really but the 2 real problems are gone and as respected as Philbin is around the NFL and how well Aponte does her job, I seriously doubt there presence will hinder a GM hiring.

something strange happened, he was the big name entering the many searches for potential new Gms and he fell off the map quickly.

every job is coveted but Miami has some advantages like you mentioned but new GMs usually want to bring in their HCs and if the QB isn't established they want to bring in their QB to put their stamp on the team. That makes it trickier more w/ Philbin b/c I think Ryan has shown he has some potential and could be pretty good and he doesn't have a big contract.

It sounds like he took his name off the map because he was set on being in Philly with his fam

I don't buy that, if he became our GM Philly is a short ride away. he wanted GM jobs.

he was interviewing coaching candidates while Sparano was still your HC, that's a douche move so he has it in him.

That was a rookie mistake, when he realized it came across as a douche move he extended Sparano.

Great list and I hope we get one of these guys.

Gamble or Pioli or Wolf for me.

Just gotta get rid of Philbin,Turner, and Coyle!

that was to save face and put on a show. I don't know the man, by all accounts he's a good guy but competition brings out good and bad in people so I would never say never.

Yep. The person who got me interested in Popp is my old man, who is the same person who got me interested in this cursed franchise. He's become a big fan of the CFL game over the years and insists that in a lot of ways, it's actually a better game than the NFL right now.

I think Trestman will open some eyes, and eventually, more doors.

I'm open to an CFL GM. Their game emphasizes passing and so does Philbin ' and the NFL in general these days. His track record sounds exceptional and given his clout he likely could also have a coattails effect and bring some of his best scouts. Let face it, they are already in the US scouting so I'd imagine they would jump at the chance to work for an NFL team under a proven successful guy.

The way Ross runs things I'm convinced that he inherited his money. How could someone who is so indecisive, gives in to demands, and quite frankly clueless. He's been jerking around with this since he took over the team, first with Parcels, then with trying to lure Harbaugh, Fishers, Getting rid of Soprano, and now this.

Clearly he has no idea how to run an NFL franchise so he needs to bring someone who does and let them do it. It's ironic that during the Martin/Incognito incident he didn't publicly call on Peterson which is fine, but he did rely on the input from some football smart individuals in Shula and Dungy. Marino and Taylor where also consulted.

With this latest scenario how can anyone worth taking the job have any level of confidence in Philbin or Aponte after what's been reported to have happened. Aponte who by all accounts is very good has proven herself as a savy business exec but someone underhanded in that she betrayed Ireland by running to Philbin and telling him what was said. Clean house!

And you'd be wrong. Stephen Ross began his career as a tax attorney in Detroit and got into real estate development and has been highly successful. Where Robert Kraft, Woody Johnson and others inherited their wealth, Stephen Ross is a self made billionaire. He is the second wealthiest NFL owner behind Paul Allen of Seattle. He is still learning how to become a good owner. It seems like he made some good calls in recent days. We are lucky to have him.

it was done to hopefully have the players not quit on him like they did...even my dead grandma knew sporano was gone as soon as it was possible, that affects players...
