It is obvious that Mularky is incapable of guiding this offense in any way. I would consider mediocrity a miracle of improvement with this guy in the booth. The drawback with bringing in a new OC, is of course, another season with a new terminology and a major learning curve for the players and the coach. Add to this the need for the coach to learn all the player's strength's and weaknesses well enough to game plan successfully, and it is easy to see why dropping a new OC in could be dismissed as detremental by the organization.

With all that in mind, I am curious how everyone would feel about QB coach Jason Garett taking the OC job in Miami. He is well respected in the organization, knows the players very well, and has been around long enough to be a legitimate candidate. I believe he would provide us an opportunity to avoid many of the pitfalls and learning curves that would be a part of bringing in someone from the outside, plus, he has an intimate knowledge of our division opponents...critical for a team that has any plans of going to the Superbowl.

I'm curious to hear any thoughts on this? Could Jason Garett be our guy?

Only problem I have with Garrett is I really am not impressed with his work with our QBs this year. I dont know how much input he has to the offensive gameplan but he hasnt impressed enough with his current duties to fill me with confidence that added responsibilities would be better

if Saban stays I could see him making a run at Jimbo fisher

you havent been a little bit impressed by cleo lemon? daunte was hurt, and Joey just plain out sucks. so how exactly is he suppose to impress you with his work with these QBs?

IMO Jason Garrett needs to be hired immediately.

i've been saying this all season & i'll keep saying it....mularkey has gotta go asap!!!

Maybe.

Does he get fired if people disagree with his play calling after one year too?

I'd have a hard time understanding who'd want to OC here if MM
gets the axe after one year.

I like the idea of Garrett to keep continuity BUT I think Saban screwed this team by keeping the same offense. You can't bring in another OC and make him use someone else's offense - that is ridiculous. Look at the Saints - think they had trouble learning a new offense? They are a machine. Get a good OC with their offense and put it in. Learning curve - that is what camp is for. Mularkey is terrible - he needs to go - BUT if they go out and get someone else and keep the same offense nothing will change. If you keep the same offense you have to hire from within.

Cleo after a year and a half still needs to have the offense scaled down to high school level, Harrington wasnt able to elevate his deep passing game and Daunte was painfully slow with his reads. Those are the negatives that I have with Garrett. This is Lemon's fourth year in the pros, I was impressed with his physical attributes but he needs to be able to run a more complicated offense then the one we watched. That may work coming in off the bench but that'll accomplish nothing when people have time to gameplan for you

we have the same scaled down offense for harrington, so whats your point?

Yes its scaled down but not to the point it was for Cleo. Listen if you dont see it you dont but thwere is no way we could run that offense for an entire season let alone a three game series before defenses would completely shut it down. Cleo has the entire offseason to get a better grasp of the playbook so that we can run a professional offense. His athleticism and arm would allow the playbook to be opened up more than it has been for Harrington but he's not even close to that yet from the playcalling Ive seen so far when he's in there. Maybe its Mularkey being Mularkey but maybe its Cleo needing more study time.

The real answer is drafting a QB who can call his own plays the way Marino and Elway did, and the way Peyton Manning does a lot of the time. BUT we know this is never gonna happen, so we should bring in an OC who is going to put in an offense that can score points. Our D is holding teams to around 15-18 points or so, but we just are not scoring enough. Losing Linehan really killed us. I don't know if Garett is the man, but I know Mularkey is not the answer. :rolleyes2
