So what I do know about this guy. Miami keeps blocking interviews with him. What I do know about his guy. He has a rash of 'talented' qbs that he has had under him and have done nothing. Who has he actually developed? What has he actually done? Why do we hold this guy in such high regard? He has done nothing from what I can tell. I know nothing about the guy in detail, but why is he held in such a god like manner, i see nothing about him that is special, but this is why I am asking.

I really have no idea other than there's a few respected people/coaches that do hold him in high regard. So I think a lot of people/fans follow along in that belief. I forget who said it but they said Garrett was the smartest qb they've been in contact with. I know that doesn't really tell you much but what I do know is that there's a few teams that want him. Such as the Browns, Dallas, and Saban over at Alabama.

But I do see your point... none of qbs have done anything special. Joey said JG is a great coach but I haven't seen any improvement from Joey. It's just very hard to gauge any talent on our offensive staff because we have problems/excuses for everything. "Mularkey stinks" "but wait, he was forced to use Linehan's playbook" "the oline stinks, but wait, we had a rash of injuries, our receivers aren't very good, but wait... it could be the qbs throwing them the ball". And then there's our kicker... Myself, I feel like we didn't put him in the best situations to succeed. I don't expect him to make every 53 yard fg with the game on the line.

We just have so many problems that it's difficult to point out an individual as being anything special. Maybe he's the slightly better then all the other crap on the offensive side and so he stands out.

i know that he has been sought after by many coaches to be their offensive coordinator and ill tell u that that doesnt happen unless you are well respected and have big upside. from what i hear i think that he is very smart and understands the game of football. he is a former nfl career backup qb that by standing on the sidelines his whole career he learned alot from it. he is obviously a guy you certainily would want on our team. excuse my grammar i am a little messed up

I've wondered the same thing. I was suprised back when they hired him as the qb coach. All I knew of him was he was a mediocre back-up qb his whole career. He certainly hasn't had much success here so I wonder why he's so in demand. He must be doing something right.

yeah, have always wondered too. he hasn't produced results in any way measurable to fans. he could very possibly be just a good kiss a$$/suck up

I don't think he has been given the best of talent to work with and on top of that he hasn't had anybody for more than a year yet. He also hasn't had fresh talent out of college yet. He has always gotten somebody else's failures.

He did coach a garbage Ferrotte and got us 9 wins last season.

Plus we don't see everything he does for the organization either. He could be an offensive minded genius being developed into our next O-Cord or even head coach. He's held in high regard for some reason and I guess we'll find out in the next year or so.

It's hard to see a great improvement by Garrett in the last year mainly because little Satan controlled everything that happened. When Linehan was here and ran his offense with Frerotte, we did well when things got settled. The fact that Mularkey didn't have Frerotte and didn't run the playbook and gameday call situations as well as Linehan did, probably make Garrett's results look poor. There were flashes of good work when Joey came in to replace Pepp and Lemon showed good ability at the end when given opportunity. If Garrett is highly spoken of by many coaches then he must be good. it's a matter of what he has to work with and if he is limited by his leader, like he was with Saban. I say go straight to Lemon who has experience with Cameron and Garrett, get value for Joey and Pepp(trade him to the raiders) somewhere and draft dept or at least keep Joey until we are sure we have enough depth to trade him. I would still start Lemon and let Garrett be his guide along with Cameron supervising him closely. We know Meuller has always drafted Qb's so he will have a few to work with.

Great question. No clue myself. There are a bunch of testimonials and anecdotes but no solid proof of his coaching prowess that I have found.

In terms of testimonials, Troy Aikman is a huge supporter of Garrett saying something to the effect of him being the only backup QB Aikman ever learned anything from. In terms of anecdotes, Garrett supposedly taught Bernie Kosar the Cowboys offense in four days.

Finally, there's the background. His family ties in coaching are extensive and he's got the Ivy league education (which in coaching terms might as well be a 4.2 in the 40).

Taking all that into account, it really doesn't mean that much yet. But, I do know I'd be a lot happier if he stayed with the Phins as OC or QB coach than if Mularkey or Shula ended filling one of those positions. At least with Garrett, he doesn't have a track record of poor offenses in his wake.

we want him to learn under Cameron, he will be the OC understudy and eventually will take over the playcalling duties. thats why we don't want him leaving and as long as he isn't offered a head coaching job he isn't leaving, he will be promoted soon to the OC role and you can't move laterally in the NFL

5 stars. I've been asking this question for weeks with out answers.

Not that I mind having a coach the rest of the NFL wants, but what he's done to be wanted so is beyond me.

Who are this "rash" of talented QB's he's had to work with?
