anyone else getting this impression?

with the roth illness thing and jason practicing there... i dont think it would be that hard for him to beat out roth...

thoughts?

I don't think it would be that hard for him to beat out Roth if it were 2 or 3 years ago. For now Jason has to earn whatever position he is assigned, be it starter or rotational player.

Jason's in elite shape still I am not going to be surprised at all when he's taking the bulk of reps. At the end of the day he's still Jason Taylor.

It seems like the Roth illness was all too perfect. I like Roth and I want him back ASAP cause thats whats best for the team but at the end of the day Jason Taylor is by far my favorite player of the last decade and I think he could still get it done. He hasn't had anything to play for in such a long time, he knows if he can be great for this team one more time the defense could be stellar.

It helps having guys on the team playing with the sole purpose of winning a superbowl. Thats the only reason he's playing folks.

I think it's entirely possible JT starts at SAM. Roth's situation seems very nebulous right now...and nebulous things often evolve into major things.

I don't know if JT can set the edge like Roth though, and that worries me. Teams will just run at Porter and JT all day long.

I have always had the feeling of JT starting. Especially now more than ever with Roth missing all this time. Sparano was quoted earlier saying JT still has it. We all know the best players will start and play. I think JT is better than Roth.

Honestly, I hope not. Now, I don't have anything against JT, I just hope Roth can come back and continue to develop as an outside linebacker. Roth has the potential to be a long term player while JT is already 35 years old and likely nearing the end of his career. I would rather have Taylor be a situational player and someone who will be fresh at the end of the game and not have to endure being a full time starter.

Nub while I agree that Roth needs to come back and continue his developement. I still see JT starting. We all have seen what he can do at the position and if he has good year. This defense could be scary.

I always thought JT would start, that's why I wanted us to re-sign him in the first place. Roth has never impressed me, he's too stiff IMO.

No....it's way too early to take Roth's job...I think this thing will play it's self out, and Roth will be the starting SAM come game 1.

I think Roth is a better tackler than JT, in the open field at least and against the bigger tougher runners, thats the only think I worry about.. Tougher against the run

I love Roth as much as the next guy but I dont see him holding down that spot. I see JT starting this year (which would benefit us short term) but Roth doesnt seem to be the 'guy'. Maybe I'm the only one with that impression but while I think he will remain on the team for a couple years a replacement ala the draft will come soon. I sure hope im wrong though, I like his intensity I just hope he has the skill set to match it.

Roth first have to be resigned, this is his contract year as well.. not starting off very well. so I expect him to be given a long look for resigning purposes..

Roth is much better at setting the edge than Taylor, Taylor is much better than Roth at Rushing the passer. Ideally, Roth will play 1st and 2nd downs, and Taylor will come in on 3rd downs.
