I don't think it's spin at all. JT is smart enough to know that he didn't have any leverage to demand a trade. He also realized that he could most damage his local rep if he got negative. Whether he prefers to leave (which IMO is likely) or prefers to stay he couldn't demand it. He realized he's nearing the end of his career so he took advantage of the opportunities he had. I think he told the team that he wouldn't back out of the dancing and that he would miss some of the mandatories for the graduation and the legal issue and the FO was pissed. He also told the team he wasn't retiring and that he planned to play one more year. I'm guessing the team tried the hard-line stance and said they would fine him for any mandatories missed. JT figured that the $100k-$150k that he would be fined could be more than made up for after he retires whether in Hollywood or in local endorsements. But it didn't make sense for him to walk away from the $7.5 mill and it didn't make sense for him to demand a trade. So I don't see any spin from JT's version. The most I could see would be for him (or most likely his agent) to try to sell the team on how it's in their best interest to trade him but it didn't make sense for him to make any demands.
