I don't think that we, as Dolphins fans, can ever give enough credit and praise to guys like Jason Taylor. If you haven't already read the transcript of his recent interview on 760-AM ESPN, do yourself a favor and read that here. It's so refreshing to hear a player talk the way Jason does. He is the ultimate team player. I wrote a brief response to this interview at my site.

Check that out here.

Here's an excerpt:
Too often in this day and age of the NFL, players are too willing to leave behind the team that drafted them in order to chase the big free agent dollars elsewhere. A situation like this makes me think about Adewale Ogunleye, who Miami traded to Chicago after a deal was unable to be reached on a long-term contract. Ogunleye was a promising young talent who demanded more money than the team was willing to give him. I wanted him to show his loyalty to the organization that signed him as an undrafted free agent with a torn-up knee. The Dolphins took a chance on him and rehabbed his knee, but then he recorded 15 sacks and made the Pro Bowl and he cashed in.

There's something to be said for a player who maintains their loyalty to the team that took a chance and drafted them out of college - even when that team is struggling to even be average and doesn't appear close to a championship. It's even more special that a player chooses to stick by his team through thick and thin when that player is currently in the twilight of his career (even though he's playing like he's in his prime). It would mean more to Jason to retire a Dolphin than win a Super Bowl somewhere else. That is a true team player.

It's a real honor to have players like Jason Taylor representing the Miami Dolphins.

My most respected man in all of sports! He is Miami's heart and soul, not knocking ZT either!

That is a breathe of fresh air. With all the negative talk and press the Dolphins have received, it's nice to have a player like JT. I believe that if our defense plays like it has in previous years and our offense steps it up a notch, we can be contenders. If you look at it, our team lost a lot of games by just a few points. If the offense steps it up.............it could mean actually making the playoffs. :D

Jason Taylor is the consumate professional. We should all be thanking our lucky stars that he plays for the Miami Dolphins.

The man is a legend. Good to see there is still some loyalty left in sport.

I also saw an interview with him on NFLUK TV the other day where he was asked about all the personal awards and accolades he had recieved over the years, he said it was all down to his team mates and he couldn't of done it without them.

Also, why do I have a warning button above my posts?

actually, we should all be thanking don shula. Him and Zack are the last of the shula class. Shula had a knack for drafting players who loved the game and he would always look at heart and soul above stats. Look at T.Bowens, Richmond Webb, Marino. This doesn't always work... look at Karim abdul jabar, sammy smith.

Maybe some coaches should take a page out of Shula's book and find less selfish players who care more about dedication, freindships, and the overall team then their own personal bank account.

I'm sure if you look at JT's or AT's accounts you will find a few 0's backing some large numbers...

You bring up Ogunleye but it's not a similar situation, jason taylor is getting paid star money so he doesn't have a contract to complain about. Ogunleye knew he had 1 chance to make big money and he made it in large part b/c he played opposite Taylor. If Taylor wasn't making star money then i think you'd see him test the FA waters.

zach was drafted in '96, taylor in '97 and Jimmy Johsnon took over in 1996 so how does Shula get credit for them?

Ring Of Honor!

I hope Zach and JT go into the Dolphins ring of honor at the same time!....and not several years down the road. I'm not sure how others feel about it....but would love to see #54 & #99 retired by the Dolphins.
All those comments by JT were great to hear.....thanks for the post!

My favorite part of the interview:

Will Ricky Williams ever play another game for your team?

JT: "Who really knows, who cares?"

He bleeds aqua and orange, just like us, we need more of him on this roster.
