For all the work done through the Jason Taylor Foundation and his new job of raising three kids full-time, one episode from his playing career doesn’t carry fond memories. That would be the singular season of Cam Cameron.

“Cam was an idiot,” Taylor says. “I have no idea how he got the job. I’ve never been around a more incompetent head coach than Cam Cameron. I’m talking youth football, college. It was unbelievable.

Taylor was very candid when talking with the Miami Herald contingent about his feelings for the coach who would lead Miami to their worst season in franchise history.

While he loved Jimmy Johnson and liked Dave Wannstedt and even Nick Saban, he loathed Cameron.

“Everything we did, he had to have a problem with. That was his way of being the biggest voice in the room.

If I talked or Zach talked in a team meeting or after practice, he would always need to have the last word.

“It was the weirdest thing. We’d all look at each other because he would repeat something one of the players already said. That dude lost me first day of training camp.

Even at minicamp, I’m wondering what are we doing?”

It’s really the first time since then that a player or ex-player has honestly spoke out against Cameron.

There was always visual evidence that the coach didn’t have his teams respect but no one really took the time to talk about it. Until now.

When you're losing, that losing mentality is very contagious. It makes things worse. When you lose a game, you always played worse. When you win a game, no matter how bad you played, people tell you that you played well. There was a lot of situations we all would've liked to handle differently. There was times in games we could've played better or made a different play.

So I'm not going to take sides for one guy or the other. It was a bad situation. We were losing and kind of stuck in a rut. There was a lot of things that could've been handled different from everybody, players included.

Defensive end Jason Taylor, Miami's only Pro Bowl player, took a
neutral stance on the firing.

"We've had a difficult year, and it's one of those times when
it's a little unsettling,'' he said. "As a player on the team, you
can only control what you can, and for other things, you have to
let others do it.''

There apparently was an underlying reason for Taylor's neutrality.
Kicker Jay Feely, in an interview with ESPN Radio 760 on Thursday, said Cameron treated Taylor in a way that bothered some Dolphins players.

"Probably his one mistake, I think, was kind of taking on Jason and trying to diminish his role on the team, because [Taylor is] just a guy that gives you everything he's got," Feeley said in the interview, according to the Herald. "He was the defensive MVP, and that kind of left a bad taste in all of the players' mouths," Feely said. "Every first-year head coach is going to make mistakes like those when you come in because you're trying to establish yourself, you're trying to establish your authority over the team."

Jason Taylor: ”[Nick Saban] turned the team over to veterans, and we ended up rallying around him even when things went poorly” referring to how this team differs from last years debacle with former coach Nick Saban. ”Our relationship [with Cameron] is different,” Taylor tells the Herald. “He’s trying to establish his program and his way of doing things.” He later adds ”It definitely doesn’t seem like we’re all after the same thing.”

I could tell he was an imbecile draft day with his epic speech

“Ted Ginn and his family will give us everything they’ve got,’’

"Hey, we need that thumb to go this direction," Cameron said, pointing his upward.
"Ted Ginn is going to be someone you're going to enjoy watching play for a long, long time as a Miami Dolphin."

Hey Cam IT WASN'T THUMBS YOU WERE SEEING.

He always reminded me Ralphie from Christmas Story.....I bet he would shoot his eye out!

how bad was he? Even Jon Harbaugh fired him with his team in 1st place realizing he would ruin his SB aspirations. Result: won SB that year.

Hey JT, you're not the only one who thought Cam Cameron was an idiot then. Considering Baltimore fired him, and I think LSU did the same, you're not the only one who thinks he's an idiot now.

I'm unsure of timing. Was Cam a Huizenga appointment or Stephen Ross? My hunch is Huizenga, but who was the GM?
Pretty incredible to get it wrong so badly.

Everyone beats up on the hiring of Cam Cameron. If I recall, he was the offensive coordinator of the Chargers and they were a high scoring offense. He was a highly regarded coordinator and HC candidate that year.
Its not as if his hiring was out of left field. He stunk as a HC, but he's not the 1st highly regarded coordinator who couldn't handle a HC job.
