Jason Taylor wants to play for the Dolphins in 2010, a source tells the Miami Herald.
Taylor is healthy and having a big year at age 35. He's played in all eight games as an every-down linebacker, recording 5 1/2 sacks and 23 tackles. Taylor is currently on a one-year deal and has had no conversations with the team about a new contract, but expect the two sides to reach an agreement after the season

Bring back Taylor on another 1 yr deal, cut Porter and Wilson.

Porter has 2-3 years left on his $32 million dollar contract. I am no cap expert, but I am sure that will be a big hit. Hopefully we can trade him. If not, we might be better off keeping him.

Unfortunately, Wilson's contract is worth almost $28 million. I just dont see us cutting both of them and taking hits on both players. I think Wilson is the player we need to take the hit with and just move on.

Nublar, help me out here. What is the ramifications of cutting both of these players & your opinion on what our FO will do in these cases?

Disagree completely...JP needs to move on and we need to start Cam wake and pick up another DE/OLB stud in the draft and have Taylor mentor him on how to be a bad ***----Gibril needs to get back to the way he played in NY, and is young enough to turn it around, he ahs the size, speed and athleticism, i think he has been caught looking in the backfield too much on plays where we know the bomb is coming when we watch from our living room...i dont think hes comfortable here yet....I think JP is too damn comfortable and might as well have been sipping a muay thai laying on a blanket across from Vollmer last weekend as we more or less played with 10 fricken guys on the field against Tom Brady...when he went on the sideline to re-apply his sun lotion is the only time we got pressure on the QB---(we can thank Cam wake for that

I don't know... Put JP in the doghouse untill he gets pissed and then unleash him the night before the game, that way he can get at least 1 tackle...

A lot of the reasons our young defensive ends are starting to be more productive is Taylor/Porter and the attention they get. Look at a lot of those plays they make sacks or tackle for losses on, Taylor/Porter draw double team and are taken deep around the Qb making a large hole for the end to spin in and get up field.

Porter has 2 years left. he's scheduled to earn 3.6m base salary next year, however, the signing bonus would accelerate if we cut him. that's 8m. all in all, we'd take roughly a 4.4m hit if we cut Porter.

there's very little details about Wilson's and, let me throw him in there, Bell's contract. Wilson signed a 5-year deal with about 8m guaranteed, Bell 4 years with 10m guaranteed. i have no idea about their annual salaries.

Ramifications: 0

There will be no salary cap next season because there won't be a new CBA. A LOT of over priced vets and FA busts will get cut all around the league.

He's in the top 5 best players on the team currently, despite being 75 years old.

I sincerely hope we bring him back for that pittance of a salary he's requesting.

It matter's what the guaranteed $ is left on the contract not the overall amount.

Porter was guaranteed $20 million and $12 mill of that came off as a signing bonus. The rest of his signing bonus was to be spread over the next 4 years of his contract. However, his salary jumps to an alarming $4.9 million in 2010 and $5.9 million in 2011. I would much rather take the cap hit of $4 million next year for paying the rest of his contracts guaranteed money as it would actually save $2.9 million against the cap next year, because if we keep him we would need to pay him $6.9 million ($4.9 million salary and $2 million guaranted).

Wilson was guanteed $8 million of the total $27.5 million contract, and was to make around $16.5 million the first three years of his deal. I tried to find the exact breakdown but was unable to. Depending on what he got as a signing bonus and what his scheduled guaranteed money is to make each year he could definitely be released this offseason as well.

I could definitely see our FO take the cap hit on these two next year as we have plenty of cap space. Also, if no collective bargaining agreement is reached and there is no cap I think we will see a purge of overpriced players let go before next season from every team in the NFL.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Having Jason Taylor on this football team gets us nowhere. I know it is not the popular answer for most here but how about we move forward and try to get younger guys on the field at the position. JT has nothing to do with the future of the Dolphins he just represents a bumpy past. I can't understand why most of you don't see this. I know JT comes cheap but we have to go in a new direction. Old players aren't going to take us anywhere. He is 35, his skills have diminished and he is very close to being done.

Sorry to say it but father time is undefeated and players get old and they go way. JT is right on the cusp of finality.

Yep

Say What U Want People Out Of Frustration, but The Bottom Line Is Jt Has Out Performed Everyone As Rushing The Passer, He Leads Team In That Stat. I Totally Agree With Cam Wake Starting On Strong Side And Jt On Weakside. Jt Is Much Better Rushing Off His Weakside, Thats Why I Suggested Moving Joey To The Middle, We Havnt Had A Sack Or Even A Pressure Out Of Our Inside Linebackers. Do We Run A 3-4 Or A 5-2? If We Do Send Our Inside Guys They Don't Get To The Qb So Who Are We Confusing With Our Lb's. I Honestly Like The Bear Fronts That We Run Ala 46. We Need Cam Wakes Hand Down On Left Outside Lined Up Wide Like Charles Mann Used To Do Outside The Tightend, Head Up On The Tight End Should Be Matt Roth Shifted From Inside Linebacker, He Should Flop To What Ever Side The Tightend Is On Because Roth, Jp And Both Pittsburg Outside Backers Harrison And Woodley Are The Only People That Ive Seen Be Able To Control Any Tight End In The League Against The Run. In The Middle Would Be Porter Until Crowder Gets Back And Then Jp Will Take Roths Spot. Jt Will Have The Weakside Lb Position, With Langford, Fergy, Starks What A Front With Bell In The Box, I'm Like The Cajun Cook I Use To Love "i Gar On Tee" You Couldn't Run Or Pass Against Us!!!!!!!! On Obvious Pass Downs, From Left To Right, Wake, Starks, merling And Jp With Jp Blitzing From Anywhere, Move Him Around Dammit!!!!, I Keep Saying Like A.j Duhe, Charles Haley, Brian Cox.c'mon Man!!!!!!

You say he is finished and his skills are diminished but anyone can look at his stats and see he is probably the MVP on our defense for the first half of the season. He leads the team in sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (2), and is in second place in TFL (3) fumbles recover (1) and defensive TD's (1). Just because NFL players get older doesn't mean they necessarily have a huge drop off. White, Strahan, and Green are possibly the best 3 pass rushers ever to play the game and they had very productive/probowl seasons well into their mid to late 30's. I could definitely see JT doing this as well.
