What is your guys opinions on Jasper Brinkely out of South Carolina?

6-2 264 Lbs 107 Tackles (87 Solo) 5 Sacks his senior year... runs a 4.7 40 time... He would be a GREAT Strong Side OLB on the opposite side of Joey Porter or ILB .

He would probably be a Mid round pick (but stock could rise after combine)

His Scouting report:
Jasper Brinkley Scouting Report
Pros: Great at stuffing the hole and dropping a runningback in their tracks. Is very good in pass coverage and rushing the quarterback. Cons: Could have some trouble chasing down NFL runningbacks and receivers. Will need to get a little faster in order to have great success. Overall: Brinkley is dominant at the linebacker position. Would be best suited in a 3-4 defense. Could very well start his rookie season at a starting position.

Great in coverage?? Yeah for a defensive tackle...

2 down linebacker in the NFL IMO...and that's if he doesn't get hurt on 1st down...

agreed. hes not good in coverage at all. hes a down hill ILB. hes not a OLB in the 3-4

I like him in the third depending on what he looks like at combine possibly late second depending on what else it still out there he is slowwwwww though

Have any of you seen him play?

Honestly if you have you'll notice a guy as big as Ray Lewis with a decent football IQ to get in the right places. His ceiling isn't as big as Rays coming out but I wouldn't be surprised if he sheds some pounds to about 260 and plays alot like Antonio Pierce for the Giants. Mind you great in coverage for an ILB involves squeezing passing lanes to make it tough for quick slants and bumping WR off routes when the ILB can, not much to ask, but takes a great football IQ.

Antonio Pierce...Now would any of you be upset with that.

I've liked him for a while now.

From what I've seen I wasnt al that impressed with the pass coverage side of things, but as for pluggin holes and getting to the edges to run down RB's, I'd be very happy to see him in Miami this season!

BP likes them big, bigger and huge!!!! Jasper fits the bill and I really hope we have a shot at him in the 4th maybe 3rd depending on his combine.

OLB? How many 270 lb. OLB's do you see? If he runs in the 4.7 range, there is no way he is playing on the edge, he'll play inside linebacker on running downs and probably come off for passing situations since his speed makes him a serious liability in coverage. I would be ok with him in Miami though.

If we pick him with our 4th round or later, I wouldn't mind. A third rounder is way too high for a 2 down LB.
