Jaws with Micheal Irvin > excellent discussion

He doesn't know what to do. They didn't get a real pass rusher to help Cameron out...JT just sucks...he really needs to hang it up!!! Nolan is reaching for staws right now with the crap talent he has been provided.

That being said...if dropping Cameron in coverage for a lousy zone blitz...he needs to hang it up too...
Wake was susposed to cover Holmes on the TD pass. That's a terrible miss match with no saftey help.

I think an innovative offensive coach is exactly what they need to hire. Tony Sparano is anything but an innovative offensive coach. Cam Cameron came from a strong offensive background, but he was already a failed head coach at the college level. That should have been enough for them to not hire him.

Miami needs a shake up in the overall organizational philosophy that has been in place for 15 years now. Get rid of this defense first, run the ball, and manage the game mindset that focuses on ball control and time of possession on offense. They need fresher, newer ideas. Spread things out. Run the no huddle. Focus on speed and skill instead of size and power. Don't forget about defense, but don't make it the crux of your philosophy.

Also, Cam isn't exactly what I call innovative. Air Coryell was innovative in the 1970s, but it is basically the same system now that it was in the '80s.

I want someone who will embrace the principles of the college spread, because that's what the college game is giving to the NFL at this time. I want someone that will come in and shake things up the way Chip Kelly did at Oregon, Urban Meyer did at Florida, and Dan Mullen has done at Mississippi State.

June Jones did it for a few years at Hawaii with Colt Brennan at QB. using all former nfl coaches as assistants. I can't recall the Defensive Co. name, but he used to leave tickets for Elvis at each oiler game, uh,,,,, oh yeah Glanville. Well Glanville has taken that dog and pony show to the ufl now and June is coaching SMU. But I beleive if we get Cower and everyone is still looking for that innovation, I think you'll see it in reverse. Always said if the opposing offense can't get on the field then they can't score very much. You only need to average 4yd.s a carry to take all that time off the clock.

Yes, I agree...not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing...anyway...I don't think an OLB should EVER be placed in man coverage any anyone other than a TE...or only a back going into the flats. I can understand dropping into a zone...but have him cover Holmes...give me a break!

I have no problem with using a OLB for short zone as long as he has safety help. My problem is using our only good pass rusher to do it. Drop Misi or one if not both of the ILB and get Wake in a four point stance where he is deadly. Remember he was a DE before he came here. Why they are using him at all in coverage is beyond me.

The discussion of matching coaching style and offensive philosophy with the !st round QB's talent was good . Even Luck if put in the wrong scheme might not succeed.

jaws and irvin ? I cant see any valuable analysis coming from that convo, and certainly not anything that hasnt been covered here 10x over, by people with IQs.

I found it interesting so I posted it. Whether you listen to it or not is your choice friend.
There are plenty of SFL threads to choose from. I thought jaws was very good.

Agreed.

They're very late to the party to what has been obvious for quite awhile

No love for Mike Shula from Irvin, when discussing Cam's development as a qb. Wonder if we could snag him for next years staff.

If it's been discussed that Luck might fail if not put in the correct offense I missed it.

He has been pushing Chud for head coach for a while. Shula does get little credit but he's been a QB coach for a long time now and may be getting the hang of it. I would not mind having a Shula here coaching again. Right now our QB coach is a recievers coach / college HC.

Agrees.

Such a critical hire to make in the offseason, especially if we try to be more attractive to luck's camp.

Exactly. That was the point Jaws was making. Even Luck needs the right offensive scheme and coaches to be sucessful. OC is critical and so is QB coach.
That part will be hard because we'll most likely have our coaching staff BEFORE the draft.
Say we don't get Luck and land Griffin instead. Completely differant style QB. Do you have to change your schemes to tailor to his strengths ? For sure.

Please site me someone that has done it at the NFL level please. No more college gimmicks !
