It surprises me that some here have alluded that we shouldn't be looking at him because we have other pressing needs.

1. Yes, we have other pressing needs
2. Is there former All Pro talent available in the free agent market at these other pressing needs
3. Do we have imminent concerns, i.e. next year at DL? Yes.
4. He's a former All Pro, yes he's 32, but let's have a look at him and let's look at that in isolation. Not in comparison to other needs. Because it's completely irrelevant

Just my view.

Some good points. I really hope (assuming Ireland remains) or whoever is not consdering letting go of both Soliai and Starkes, particuallry Soliai. I think that would be a decision once again what will come back to bite us...letting a good player go thinking you got another younger player there ready to step in. They play at a high level IMO.

With Starks and Soliai not having a contract for next season, Ratliff could be brought in on the cheap to see if he has any spark left.

There have been worse safety nets brought into this organization. After the Cincy game watching our DL do well with a 4 man rotation Ireland and Philbin are prob thinking to improve that 4th man or make it a 5 way. A big sweaty buffet eating 5 way.

While Ratliff would add some depth to the DL, I would hope that any sane person watching this team realizes that DL depth is about the last thing this team needs. If we want another castoff Cowboy scrub I would suggest luring Drew Pearson out of retirement...maybe Michael Irvin. If we need anything it's another receiver.

I don't know about that...our d-line seems to get pretty winded by the end of the game and let up some big chunk plays run wise. Picking up someone like Ratliff would let us give The guys in the middle even more of a break and keep them fresher throughout the game.

The choice wasn't ever between signing an all Pro DT or an All Pro Linebacker. If it was I would agree. It was an between an All Pro DT or a scrub Linebacker. In that case people should of been happy with the acquisition. Anyway hes now a bear so /endthread.
