Would the Dolphins have taken him, (Tannehill) if he hadn’t gone to Texas A&M and hadn’t been coached by offensive coordinator Mike Sherman? “Absolutely. I started scouting Ryan back in August. My opinion of him didn’t change a whole lot when we hired Mike Sherman. It helped the process. I had a strong conviction about Ryan from October, December. The more I spent time with him, the more I broke down [tape], the more I liked him. When Mike and [assistant quarterback coach] Zach Taylor and [offensive line coach] Jimmy Turner came on board [from Texas A&M], it only helped the conviction.”

I wouldn't say laid back, but he has deterred from coming off as pompous and arrogant. Honestly I wanted everyone from the Parcells regime purged, but i'm starting to see what he is trying to do and where he plans on going. Of course him and Philbin's jobs now hinge on Tanny, but I'm sure he wouldn't have taken the risk if he didn't feel it was worth it. I do expect them to at least compete for a wildcard spot this season.

No way he's more laid back, this move will absolutely BREAK him if it backfires. That's gotta be stressful.

The only issues I ever had with Jeff was really when he was using the Bill Parcells philosophy... Before Jeff got here I always HATED to see our team trade away draft picks or spend all of our money on free agents every year. I absolutely hated it. Every year the smart teams that had 100 draft picks and plenty of cap room to sign their own players back went to Superbowls while we fought over old hot garbage. I wondered why our fan base never seen what the real problem was and better yet why our own Front Office didn't see this hurry to go nowhere approach. When we signed the Parcell crew I noticed we stopped over paying for used up free agents and gradually were trading down for more draft picks. We started doing it even more when Parcells left. It's the only way to build a steady Contender in the NFL and I for one think Jeff Ireland will go down as one of the best GM's to work for the Phins.

It wasn't that Jeff Ireland was using the Bill Parcells philosophy, it was Bill Parcells using the Bill Parcells philosophy.

Parcells is stubborn. That dude is going to do what he wants to do and I can damn near guarantee that he never took into account Ireland's opinions/expertise. And as a result, Ireland takes a lot of **** from the fans. People just need to point fingers so that they can then lay blame. I knew that it was one of the two ****ing this whole thing up and I had a damn good feeling it was Parcells given his track record.

I can see Ireland right now looking Parcells in the eye and thinking to himself, "What a dumbass. Is this dude serious? Whatever, man."

And then you had that stooge, Tony Sparano, taking average talent and getting nothing out of it because all he had was a lousy Tecmo Bowl playbook.

Tony was a stooge, and he really was not head coach material on day 1 or his last day, but I liked his enthusiasm.

I agree to a point, but I still say Jeff was using his philosophy. Maybe for only like a total of 2 months  , but it still was the Bill Parcells way of things.

He signed both Dansby and Marshall to huge contracts, which isn't his MO... That was a Parcells move not an Ireland move.

After he seen how that went he started using his own philosophy and that's why we're already starting to see a change in the team . Lot more offensive playmakers all of a sudden and a solid Defense to back it up.

To me this his 2nd year and from what I seen this guy knows his stuff. Big free agent splashes are for the birds and always will be. A NFL team is built through the draft while keeping your own coached up players.

Ireland is going "all in" with Tannehill. You can see it in his chirps to the media. "Tannehill is going to look like he is ready pretty quick."
"We drafted him to let him compete for the position. We need to play better at that position, whether it's a new player or Matt. That position really has to be more productive."We don't expect Tannehill to sit for long -- not in the current climate, where rookie passers are playing (and, in the case of Mr. Cam Newton, dominating) out of the chute. At Miami's rookie minicamp over the weekend, Tennehill told reporters: "I hope I'm looked at as the leader of the team."

Either he has a good hand and wants to play it or he is down to his last chips. I think he has a pretty good hand.

He has to earn the position of leader of the team. His draft position has not guaranteed him anything other than a chance to compete. He has to earn the respect of his team mates by making plays on the field. Once the veterans arrive, he will have to produce. I doubt that Moore and Garrard will just step aside for him. In the long run, he will be the guy, but in the short term, those types of statements should be kept between him and his lovely wife. Just my .02

This^

They're not just going to give him the job because he looks good in shorts. There is a lot to learn before you start an NFL game at Quarterback. We have 2 good veterans at the position, why throw the rookie in there?? Let him sit and learn, eventually he'll take the spot, but he shouldn't be thrown in there because fans say so.
People have to understand, Coach Philbin is a Qb guru. Let him do his magic and make this kid as good as he can be.
