Jeff Ireland addresses state of Dolphins

Philbin was quoted in the press setting the record straight ... saying he had nothing to do in the past with QB Development, didn't work with QBs, & doesn't know where that rumor came from.

Shows how blind enthusiasm replaces fact across the board ... from major media to blogs for months on end, & continues after the truth is emphasized.

If "fact" includes attributions of developmental credit by Aaron Rodgers himself, IMO the enthusiasm is well-placed.

We all love Joe. He probably, as much or more than anybody in here - I know how much he's meant to me and my development and how important it is, the time he spends with us each week, how he gets us prepared - just his presence around here."

Rodgers said that while Philbin does not call the plays in the game, he is vital to the Packers preparation on offense.

"Joe's very important to our success. The day-to-day stuff, all the coaching responsibilities that he has, installing plays, explaining plays, his role in those meetings, the way that he helps get practice run the right way, he does a ton for us. As players we probably don't even see half the stuff he does to get us ready during the week.

"We're going to miss him. We really are. As a player you love to play, you love the games, you love the preparation - but the thing that's going to stick with you long after you're done playing is the guys. And the relationships: As player to player, player to coach, player to support staff, player to personnel staff, player to fan - but the player to coach relationship is very special.

"Joe has been a large part of my success as a player. I really enjoy our conversations together. I make sure we spend time every Friday catching up, talking about things.

Offensive Coordinator Joe Philbin was the silent mind behind the Packers offense preparing quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the offensive line for every game even though Coach Mike McCarthy took the lead in calling many of the plays during games.

Rodgers, speaking on his weekly radio show on ESPNMilwaukee and ESPNMadison, had high praise for Philbin as well.

“I think Joe is probably underrated as far as the conversation goes about the success of this offense. Joe is an integral part of our offense and our success, putting together a game plan,” Rodgers said. “I always enjoy our conversations. He’s extremely philosophical.

He has (NFL) head coach written all over him. If you look at the ways that he commands a room and speaks to us and installs, and teaches, and commands his audience. I think he really understands was it means to lead and I don’t want to see him go, but if he’s got a great opportunity, then I’m sure he’ll look into it.”
