Jeff Ireland has been GM since 2008, stop making excuses

I think you're overreacting. I bet you're real fun in real life.

One playoff appearance since getting embarrassed by the Ravens in 2001 (and counting...), and it was a fluke thanks to the Jets tossing Pennington. Without him, no way the Phins go 11-5. It's reality, not overreacting.

So you didn't like Ireland's choices this past season as GM?

I like some of them (Bush signing, Pouncey, and Clay) but having a middle of the pack GM is not going to dig the Dolphins out of this. All NFL GM's hit it on some of their choices, just like Ireland. But he gets paid millions to do the best possible job. And how am I or anyone supposed to trust Ireland to find a franchise QB?

I'm a big fan of his moves this year and am glad he'll have a second year to do the same and prove we made the right call.

Same. If people want to think the Tuna sat in his office and didn't have final say on all moves while he was here, well I think they are living in a fantasy world. I look as this past year as Ireland's 1st year as Dolphins GM.

Let me say, I totally understand what you are saying. I just think it's not accurate. I just cannot see a situation while a person like the Tuna has power he would ever allow anyone else but himself to use that power.

I have no idea how you can assess if Ireland is a MID of the pack, bottom or even top of the pack type of GM at this point. IMO this past year should be viewed as Ireland's 1st year as our GM. The previous years IMO the Tuna was the real GM.

I'm going to end up blindly cheering for them come september. I want Ireland to have a good offseason, I just don't think he will. I don't see him cutting the Parcells mold. It's not just Ireland, we've made so many mistakes in 10+ years that I'm pessimistic about this team in general during each off-season.

I'm not crazy about Fisher, and people say he's mediocre, but the Titans went to a super bowl, had 4 division titles, won 13 games 3 times, went 12-4, 11-5, 10-6 and a bunch of 8-8's mixed in with those few poor seasons....with a horrible, cheap owner who lost tons of players to free agency. Yet Miami hasn't won 12 games or more since 1990 or been to a super bowl since the 1984 season, so who are we to diss Fisher?. Fisher is not amazing, but we haven't had a coach with a better resume since Don Shula. And they decided against it....hoping to find Don Shula or Bill Belichick, and I highly doubt they will. Of course I'd rather have a "young Shula" instead of Fisher...but those odds are highly slim.

When we find a QB all of this will be resolved. I have no idea if Fisher would be better to find that QB or not.

For me this is how I look at it. It seems like every time we go looking for a new HC we throw everything at them, and it never seems to workout.

Personally think we should go after Chud, I like the idea of bringing in a young HC to coach our players. The last time we did that it worked out pretty damn well with Shula.

I like Chud but Darlington says they feel he isn't ready. We should have a shot at a QB if we want to aka RG3. The Rams might trade their pick, and rumor has it the Vikings will, they've said they are sticking with Ponder. Funny thing is Fisher will decide that...keep Bradford or draft RG3?

Then there's Peyton...but that's only if he regains his health and goes into FA. That's a quick fix, but if he was playing at even just 90% you could see a playoff contender...which is more than we've had in a long time. I'd take 3 healthy years. Doubt it happens though.

Before proclaiming the Sparano clad Jets to the play offs and discredit us, how about the offseason actually gets underway first. Eh?

Just because Jeff Ireland has been here since 2008 doesn't mean the losing seasons are his fault. Vontae Davis has been here since 2008 too. By the OP's faulty logic, the Dolphins failures can be laid at the feet of Vontae Davis.

He's a cornerback....not someone in charge of making decisions.

People, I hope Ireland does a great job and we get a top QB...I just highly doubt it. You earn that trust, not by going 7-9, 7-9, and 6-10. There's a reason we dropped to 28th in attendance, the lowest the Dolphins have ever been. It's not just the losing seasons, because they were still a top 15 team in 2006, 2007. It's that people don't trust the organization any more. It's going to continue to drop.

When Ireland finally drafts a decent QB, than I will believe that he is an above average GM. So far he has been involved either directly or indirectly in drafting 2 QBs (Henne and White) and both have been lacking. I do not think he is bold enough to trade up for RGIII so what will his plan be than?

Jeff Ireland didn't have the last say when Parcell was around. If he did, Pat White wouldn't have been a 2nd round pick. It was well know that Parcell had a man crush on dude.

You cant say White would not have been a pick, because there have been no reports of any opinion by ireland on White for all we know Ireland's glowing support of White swayed Parcells

Obviously I meant Ireland.

Are you a zombie Dolphins fan that stands by everything they do and say? The Dolphins are an NFL laughing stock.

my post was only in reference to the original title of the thread (ie: jeff fisher GM), not the actual content. you missed total epic fail status because starting a thread with the wrong name in it has been done to death. do you still want me to answer your question, now that it doesn't likely apply to me?

I'm part of the minority that think Ireland isn't all that bad, mostly because I think it's tough to differentiate between what he did and what Parcells did during the first few years of Parcells tenure. I do think Ireland had a good offseason and has brought in some good players since Parcells has gone. Not many people believed in Reggie Bush, and almost no one believed in Matt Moore. I'm willing to see what he does in this offseason before I start calling for his head. I do think he has his work cut out for him though, because finding a franchise QB is priority #1, and from where we are it will be extraordinarily difficult for him to land one.

Yes that's why they basically pushed the Tuna out and kept Ireland around?

Honestly.
