I just seen that Jeff Ireland was hired as a draft consultant for the Seahawks. Why would anyone want to have his consultation based on what he did here? I guess he wanted to give himself a good test and see how many years it will take him to drop that team to the depths like he did with us.

Not to bash you but this happened a few weeks ago. Its not a total shock someone hired him as a consultant, he's been covering the draft almost his whole life and whether you want to admit it or not, Ireland has had a few good picks in his time. Every GM makes bad draft choices. Not a shocker he got another job.....

Seahawks War Room: "Hey Jeff, how do you feel about this guy in round 2?"

Jeff Ireland: "I ****IN' LOVE HIM"

Pete Carroll quietly stands and erases the name from the whiteboard.

These teams are spending very large amounts to find talent. Ireland has good knowledge of the players in this year's draft. I am not an Ireland fan but he had his share of hits and misses.
He did find some "acorns" eg Tony Romo undrafted in Dallas was a huge hit. Demarcus Ware was a very great 2nd round pick. Charles Clay, Brian Hartline and Reshad Jones were good draft picks in Miami. Even Rishard Matthews was an excellent 7th round pick, when little is expected. However, there were lots of busts particularly in the 2nd round and on O-linemen.
Seattle may pay him like $200K for 2 weeks work. To the wealthiest owner in the NFL, Paul Allen, coming straight off a Super Bowl, it is not a lot to tap into another guys recommendations. His GM will get inside knowledge on the players that Miami was targeting about 4 months ago. They may also get an insight into the evaluation process that Ireland recommends and get some ideas on that. Ireland also brings his vast number of inside contacts in other teams and the media. He's a connected prick who may have dirt.
Ireland will get paid and his massive ego stroked with the prospect of a big role in the future with a top team. They get to see close up if they like his ideas or if he is talking B/S.

Now the assistant gm has left Ireland will probably get that job post draft. ... he's close friends with the gm

Dolphin fans are way overboard with Ireland hate. Yes, he isn't a good GM, but he isn't incapable of evaluating talent entirely. He does have value to an NFL club in some capacity, just not as the guy in charge. He is a decent scout for some positions, notably DL. His issues were personality-based and arrogance.

Dropped us to the depths? We won ONE game before the Trifecta got here. Ireland was able to acquire enough talent to make us consistently mediocre again. I hate defending the guy, but the level of hyperbole around him from Dolphin fans is a bit too much to bear.

As sad as it is, Ireland was probably the best GM the Dolphins have had in the past 15 years from a scouting perspective. His first round picks were never abject failures like Ted Ginn , Jason Allen, and Jamar Fletcher. They were solid, productive players by and large. His kryptonite was the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
