Jeff Ireland is no clown in the eyes of his peers

You know those jets fans we always make fun of. The Sanchez apologists and jets homers who see everything through green colored glasses. The ones we laugh at because they can't see what's right in front of their own faces. The ones who make illogical excuses for Sanchez and only hear what they want to hear. Well...........

We got rid of the coach responsible for that record. Do we need to fire every staff member of the organization to turn it around? That's like replacing the whole car when you only have a flat tire. You only need to replace the broken part, and that was Sparano and his coaching staff.

That same coaching staff won the division with the roster they largely inherited (not Jeff Ireland's team)

The more this has become Jeff Ireland's team - the worse it has got

There actually werent many holdovers at all. Most of the roster was purged. Anyways, If you want to blame one of the easiest schedules in history and Tom Brady's season ending injury on Jeff Ireland, go ahead. You just sound like all of the other uninformed fans.

Funny how a dominant and overbearing personality like Parcells gets no blame. Until last yr Ireland was an understudy and did not have final say. Obviously he had some influence, but BP was in charge and had final say on every move.
I will judge Ireland starting with his draft last yr and this upcoming yr. He has done well so far.
With respect to finding a 'franchise QB', in many cases it takes nothing more than pure luck and timing. The Pats stumbled onto Tom Brady. How much of a genius is Irsay? His dad was in position to draft Elway(he refused to play for them). Irsay Jr was in position to draft Manning (a no brainer) and now Luck. Is the Colts FO brilliant or lucky?
The only major QB decision Ireland had any role in, was choosing Jake Long over Ryan and passing on Mallett. I personally don't feel Ryan is an elite QB and Mallett is/was a gamble due to character concerns, so I can't fault him for either move.
The big mistakes were made by Wannstadt (Jamar Fletcher over Drew Brees) and Saban (Brown over Rodgers). Both of which had nothing to do with Ireland.

Don't forget a savvy, veteran QB (Pennington).

You can spin it any way you like

The idea that the only problem with this team was the coaching staff simply is NOT consistent with the facts

Can't win consistently in this league with moderate talent at the key positions. Can't win consistently in this league with no leadership on the field

Ok, so in the 1 season that Ireland has had complete control over the draft and FA signings, what would you have done that would have won us a super bowl last year? Im dying to hear this....

Can the Ireland apologists give me a heads up on when it is OK to blame him for the mediocre state of this team? Will after this season of 7-8 wins at most and missing the playoffs again be the time? Or will he need another year or 2 after this season to fully realize the roster?

Maybe I'm reading too much into these posts, but I'm thinking this thread would be much more fun in the Depths.

(we may end up there yet, but until then - KEEP IT CIVIL)

How come when Armando writes something negative about the Dolphins, he's a no-talent loser that should be unemployed, yet when he writes something positive, its a great article and he's coming around?

This pretty much is Message Board 101 stuff. It happens everywhere

Yep. The dolphins don't have the exclusive privilege of having its fan base consist of homers and haters, apologists and Debbie downers.

It's everywhere. Certain fanbases are definitely more parochial and provincial than others, NYCers and Bostonians being the most extreme example, but pretty much every fanbase has its polar opposite. The only constant is that each one of those persons will always see their view as the unbiased, objective and rational one, no matter how extreme it is.

Well, had stayed out of this thread but this point keeps rearing its ugly head, so will address it:

What about Ireland's "first" year was acceptable? He passed on multiple quarterbacks, he overdrafted a center(and we saw just how impactful that position is), he drafted a running back who ran upright and had problems fumbling who promptly fumbled the ball and injured himself, payed Marc Colombo 2 million dollars, and he attempted to not only give Kyle Orton a bigger contract than what Matt Flynn got but also tried to give draft picks away for a player who is currently warming the bench.
But wait, all of that is somehow awesome because he traded for Bush and brought in a former Dallas Cowboy linebacker who finally worked for a change.

All of that was done, of course, before the howling disaster that is the 2012 offseason.

Im not sure how anyone can objectively look at last years offseason, in its entirety, and feel pleased about the direction of this team under Jeff Ireland. I know people are rightly disturbed about this offseason.
And for the record, the only quarterback Jeff Ireland couldnt get in the 2011 draft was Cam Newton. The majority of teams picking from 6-10 were attempting to trade back. Cleveland and Washington succeeded. And that ignores Ireland passing on Pro-bowler Andy Dalton.
Ireland felt that Chad Henne was a franchise quarterback, that Kyle Orton was a franchise quarterback, that Dalton and others in the 2011 were not starting quarterbacks. He currently feels Matt Moore can be a starting quarterback. Why should we feel confident about how Jeff Ireland views the quarterback position?

His peers won't even bash Matt Millen what does that tell you? The NFL is a small community and you never know who will be your boss, or if you need a favor.

QFT!!!

Now this starts. Every damn year the apologists start lashing out by insulting the fans who end up being right. You might want to recheck your information because reality consistently contradicts you.

ohh GTFOH...What do you want his peers to say? That he's an idiot and has no clue? All of those guys could be looking for jobs someday and all of them could have to answer to the idiot Ireland. Letting an article persuade you into believing the guy is smart or has a plan is foolish. Look at the product on the field and the results. If you dont understand football maybe this guy is for you otherwise get rid of him.
