Jeff Ireland is no clown in the eyes of his peers

Well, had stayed out of this thread but this point keeps rearing its ugly head, so will address it:

What about Ireland's "first" year was acceptable? He passed on multiple quarterbacks, he overdrafted a center(and we saw just how impactful that position is), he drafted a running back who ran upright and had problems fumbling who promptly fumbled the ball and injured himself, payed Marc Colombo 2 million dollars, and he attempted to not only give Kyle Orton a bigger contract than what Matt Flynn got but also tried to give draft picks away for a player who is currently warming the bench.
But wait, all of that is somehow awesome because he traded for Bush and brought in a former Dallas Cowboy linebacker who finally worked for a change.

All of that was done, of course, before the howling disaster that is the 2012 offseason.

Im not sure how anyone can objectively look at last years offseason, in its entirety, and feel pleased about the direction of this team under Jeff Ireland. I know people are rightly disturbed about this offseason.
And for the record, the only quarterback Jeff Ireland couldnt get in the 2011 draft was Cam Newton. The majority of teams picking from 6-10 were attempting to trade back. Cleveland and Washington succeeded. And that ignores Ireland passing on Pro-bowler Andy Dalton.
Ireland felt that Chad Henne was a franchise quarterback, that Kyle Orton was a franchise quarterback, that Dalton and others in the 2011 were not starting quarterbacks. He currently feels Matt Moore can be a starting quarterback. Why should we feel confident about how Jeff Ireland views the quarterback position?

:woot: Spot on.

And this is only addressing 'last year' as Ireland's 'first'... Apparently Jeff was hog tied and gagged in the years before it.

You haven't made your case. What great options at QB has he passed on? Jury is still out on all of them. You are questioning the Pouncey pick? That's foolish. I haven't read any quotes from Ireland where he labeled Henne or Moore were franchise QB's. You have made that assumption.
BTW, there is a huge difference between being an apologist and being fair minded. He's only been in charge since last yr and does not have a sufficient body of work to crucify him over or enough good work to praise him.

Not sure how thats not making my case. One of the rookie quarterbacks that Ireland passed on lead his team to the playoffs and made the pro-bowl. After going 6-10 and finding out our options at quarterback didnt work out, what more do you want? Its only a failure on Irelands part if the Hall of Fame discussions begin after a players single season?
By all reasonable measures of success, Andy Dalton succeeded. Team had a positive record(something we didnt do). Team made the playoffs(something we didnt do). He made the pro-bowl(something our quarterbacks didnt do). He had more success in a single season then Henne did in 3 years starting. He had more success in his rookie year then Moore did in 3 years starting(off and on of course). This of course ignores the other quarterbacks Ireland could have traded up for and the strides they each made.

Ireland held onto Henne despite having a chance to replace him in his "first real offseason". He publically declared the quarterback position "fine" with Chad Henne and Matt Moore. With his "first real" chance, he could easily have replaced Henne, but choose not to. Clearly, he either misevaluated the quarterback prospects of that year or Henne. One way or another, he screwed up.
Cam Cameron had a "sufficient body of work" to crucify him in a single year. Jeff Ireland, who has had the better part of 5 offseason, has by your estimation had 2 free agency periods and a draft. I went over his first year. I found it unacceptable. I asked how you could consider it "good", but you seem to have declined to comment on that and instead focused on some vague flaws concerning my post. After trading away out best player, getting very little value for him, and being unable to fix the existing holes while creating new ones, i would roughly consider Irelands job this offseason a howling disaster.

And hilarious. How is it that the jury is still out on all those quarterback prospects....but im foolish for suggesting the Pouncey pick wasnt the key to our success last season. Oh wait, i guess key to our not-success last season. Funny how if the player is a Miami Dolphin he is a home run and to disagree with that is foolish, but if a player is choosen by another team the "jury is still out".

I think you'll find that not too many people in the position that he holds will trash talk one of their peers.

It's pretty obvious to me that he along with most of the front office for the last while share the blame.

Here's a quick read on it,

If you took a look thanks!
