Jeff Ireland is not the devil

My perspective on GM and Armando the writer and the whole situation. This is not about the last few moves. This is about the face of the franchise and not being able to land a QB since Marino. For me I can tell you Flynn was the final straw followed by a Gerrard signing. Armando does not know jack dquat about the history of this franchise. He was probably in pre-school when Marino was breaking records.

The number one issue: QB face of the franchise
1 - Last QB draft in the first round - 1983 Marino. Its not rocket science to find a starting caliber playoff QB. You just have to draft one in the first round. See Giants Eli Manning, See Denver P. Manning, see SF Alex Smith, See Pittsburgh Rothlisberger, See GB Rodgers, See SD Rivers, See Colts Luck, See Washington RG3, See Saints Brees (he was not a first round pick but dolphins should have drafted him first round over Jamar Fletcher), See Ravens Flacco, See Jets Sanchez. I think I made my point. Drafting someone in the first round is a GM thing.

2 - This team only has 3M out the 121M dollars in cap allocated to the QB. This is a GM thing. No excuse for this.

3 - Our current QBs coming from losing franchises with losing records. We want to win we need to acquire winners.

4 - We can all agree we have hired a potentially Shula like coach in Philben. He tutored FLynn for 4 years and he is an expert on the system and offense and is a winner. We lowball him and he goes to Seahawks. When seahawks franchise that has never won anything is picked over the dolphins then that is a state of how low we have come.

5 - We dont seem to have a plan to get to the Super Bowl. I think Philbin has an idea becasue he has been there and won. But I dont think the Front office has a plan to get us to the Super Bowl which requires a number 1 round draft pick at QB. There are exceptions to the rule like Brady (6th round - Beldsoe was there when he was drafter though) and Montana (SF also had a number 1 pick playing when they drafted Montana) but those are exceptions. Griese was also a first round draft pick.

Bottomline: to Me Flynn is like a breaking point of spending many years of watching QB and team be average. Armando does not understand jack squat about GMing.

My main concern is even for the sake of argument let's say Ireland is a good GM/talent eval, which seems debateable. He has been drafting and evaluating talent for Parcells system not the GB/WO offence. Some stuff is basic football. Some skill sets are unique to the WC offence. So does Ireland know what the WC offence skill set requires? This is a whole new ball game.

Or, is the media egging them on, because no one knows what he's doing, the Pat's have been quiet this offseason too...but they have a QB and that makes all the difference.
The Pats have signed 3 pretty freaking good receivers that are better than anything we have!
