What's up with the comment by Jeff saying we didn't want to reach? Unless you know how these kids will turn out in the NFL, how do you know whether you reached or not. I like the Pat White pick but personally think it was "a reach". So was the Sean Smith pick. I also wasn't thrilled about drafting wideouts that aren't much better than what we got. Also unless you're the Superbowl champs, you should take some more "need" than best player, because who know's how good the player will be. I like Pat White and all,but he's a luxury pick when you have the two Chad's. How bout a back-up guard for when are two guards get hurt? Could have had Duke or Herman late. Couldn't get a kickreturner late? So we have to use our #1 wideout for that? I'm more ticked about the late pick's than the early picks. I didn't know we were gonna carry ten wideouts on our team, yet our starting QB can't throw that far. I thought we just sat pat too much in the draft. Rey from USC isn't value at 34 when it might cost a fifth too move up? Oh right, we need another QB. It sounds like I hate the draft by the Fins, but that's not the case, I just thought we drafted like we were scared or like we were the Champs or something. I was hoping for a giant's kind of draft with d and o-line, pass rushers, a running back, and then wideout's. Liked last year's draft way better. I would rather have ten linebacker's then ten wideouts.

Um, I don't get your point. We DID draft NEED positions. We desperately need shutdown corners, Drafted. We desperately need big physical wide receiver, Drafted. Hakeem Nicks was the only 1st round talent WR left at the time we picked but we had much more need for a Corner.

He doesnt mean reaching according to FH or Mel Kiper's big board... He means in terms of the Dolphins' board that takes 11 months and millions of dollars to perfect.

I'd have a hard time believing we could convince very many folks we didn't reach for pat white.

if you want to play the drafting for needs card, we certainly didn't NEED a gimmick player with our first second round pick.
if he's not a gimmick player, we didn't need a 3rd string qb with our second round pick.

we didn't need to draft a backup qb for the third straight year, in the second round either.

would have much preferred to address a different need with the 2a pick. and certainly there had to be players of better value left on their board.

but what do I know.

The front office stayed true to their board. You should draw that conclusion after one look at the size of the majority of our players. I have to believe that they were consistent to their board; so, that implies they think they drafted a talented QB. Let's take a look at the key decision making stats

He started at least 33 games (last three years) -- the most important stat
Always above 65+ % each of the past 3 yrs. -- fairly accurate
48 passing TDs and 40 rushing TDs -- good player

I got news for you. He is there to seriously compete with Chad Henne for the 2nd QB on the roster. That is why he was picked him in the 2nd. You do not pass up a good QB prospect!!!

This is getting to the point of being frustrating.

Do we need a QB this year? No. Will we need one next year? Yes.

The good teams don't wait until they need a position before they draft it. Look at NE. They are always drafting for the next year. Same with the Eagles. Its what we did this year, as much as we could.

You people trashing the PW pick need to understand something...QB is the most important position on the team. Pennington is signed for only this year.

If we don't resign CP, next year we would go to the offseason with one QB. Why not get one now...esp one that can help us in the wildcat, get some playing time, develop, and compete with Henne? Its makes perfect sense.

Will Allen is also not signed for next year. So, we have Vontae Davis (I was going to put "we have VD" but that didn't sound good) to start this year and Sean Smith to develop so he can start next year.

Once we get to the point that we can get there with every position, we will have arrived. Bottom line, long term...PW made alot of sense.

And oh...why is the wildcat a "gimmick"? Its an offense just like the I formation. Is the shot gun a "gimmick"? Any play that works and your team can execute is what it is..its execution, not gimmicks.
