Round 1 Presser:

Jeff

  • Didn't look like an inexperienced QB which is a credit to him. He usually looks for more experience.

  • Tried to move back into 1st round, didn't happen. Teams weren't willing to move so far down.

  • They talked about trading back, several teams in the teens in what they call the "QB gauntlet."

  • Looked at arm strength, ball location, accuracy, footwork, stroke...decided he is first round talent.

  • No other player on their draft board was scrutinized more than Tannehill.

Philbin

  • No timeline as to when he'll be ready, every case is different.

  • Asked what factors will tell you he's ready? Practice field & preseason.

  • Tannehill didn't have much fundamental training in college so they'll work with him on that.

  • Watched every 3rd down play, made good throws. Studied dropped passess, staff thought he played well and gave his team a chance to win in a lot of the games.

  • Asked what they can do to help him succeed. You gotta protect him a little bit. League is more of a passing league. Improve the OL, balance w/ skill players. Ability to set feet is critical, and a young player (QB) needs protection up front.

Wonder who we were trying to get back in for. He seemed disappointed about it, which didn't make me feel too great.

End of the 1st had: several OL, couple DE, & a WR ... we're desperate for these 3 key positions ... so hard to tell exactly who.

I'd guess OL to protect the new QB!!
 
I think they tried to trade up for Jenkins. He's seems like a natural fit with what the fins are trying to do offensively.
 
wonder who it was I wouldn't doubt it being rieff either... I wish we trade up and give up like a 5rounder but get a good talent like upshaw or hill
 
he just had to throw that in there so if tannehill isn't good he can say "well see i wanted to move back" F jeff Ireland . But I am happy about the tannehill pickup, Preseason will be exciting for the first time in a while. Just gives me something to look forward to.
